blade of calling and black knife are you best option once you find them.
That's... dissapointing, guess I'll stick to my Noble's Slender Sword cause it's a good all rounder, unless Misericorde does massive damage with crits on bosses. Honestly I was expecting it to be good cause it scales with FTH while giving pure physical damage.
if you are pure faith and infuse misericorde with sacred the dagger scale from faith and yes it hit hard.
from my personnal experience Black Knife is the number 1 dagger in the game if we forget how status is busted right now...
I started toying with a faith build a while back and eventually gave up on it. I wanted a build that was based around using the weapon buffs. The problem with this is that the only weapon that scales with faith and can be buffed is erdsteel dagger. And, the dagger is quite trash. And any other weapon that doesn't have faith scaling means that I'm going to be missing out on a lot of weapon damage for a very long time. (probably 40 vigor/40 fth before I begin leveling other stats).
So in the end it got put on the backburner and I decided to just use a regular longsword with a sacred flame art.
While it wasn't my original goal to build on weapon buffs (I want to take my pure FTH as far as possible) I've ran into that issue as well; I have black flame blade and nothing to use it on, and it's even worse considering how little it lasts and how much FP it costs... so I've decided to never use it (just like the erdsteel dagger).
That's the exact spell I was looking to do my build around. You can get it really easy and relatively early. But the whole issue is that it doesn't become useful until you hit hyper late game and can use it to buff a str/dex weapon when you have 40+ points into that stat.
I have one but I don't use it to hit stuff, I use it to buff then immediately switch to something else.
Believe it or not, the Erdsteel Dagger is a good candidate for Black Flame Blade. The spell lasts about 10 seconds (takes 1 to cast) and with the speed of a dagger you can build up damage quite fast. It's also quite helpful that the Erdsteel Dagger has FTH scaling while also allowing you to enchant it (as long as you keep the standard affinity).
On a pure Faith build (i.e. 80 faith and minimum dex and strength), Erdsteel Dagger's AR (damage) falls only ~60 or so shy of a longsword, which is EXTREMELY impressive for a dagger. It also significantly outperforms Misericorde for a pure faith build, so I'm not sure what that other guy was talking about. Blade of Calling and Black Knife too, though they have their unique skills which may influence personal preference. Erdsteel Dagger does over 100 damage more than all three of them for a pure faith character. There are also two of them per playthrough, which allows you to powerstance them. Pure faith users absolutely shouldn't sleep on this weapon, especially if you just need something when the enemy gets too close for incantations. It's obviously less good when your faith is still low, but the higher your faith gets the better this dagger becomes.
Yeah i know that Erdsteel Daggers are slept on now.
But tbf, my main dislike of them is the design of their scabbards.
I still prefer either Blade of Calling or Black Knife.
And yeah, people shouldn't underestimate the double slash.
Daggers go patched like 4-5 patches ago. They addressed the hitbox issue.
