Am I missing something with armor?
I'm level 63, just arrived at the Atlus Plateau, and i'm still using the basic knight armor that you buy at the Roundtable Hold. In total, I only have like 4 sets, INCLUDING the knight armor and the armor you start off with. I understand that you can buy more from merchants, but all they really sell is the starting armor for the other classes. Yet the ghosts, bloodstains, and invaders I see are all wearing cool armor. I mean, sure, some of them might be NG+. But I can't imagine every single ghost/bloodstain I see is in NG+, and yet they all wear cool looking armor. I'm honestly think i've missed something, because I have not found anything. The only boss armor I can buy is from Rennala (i'm not a caster).

So what's going on? How do all of these people at around the same progression as me have much better/cooler looking armor than I? Have I missed a few bosses that drop armor or something?

Armor blocks a percentage of the damage you take. All Armor is viable, no armor is also viable, its not a question of wich armor is best, its a question of how much endurance am I willing to buy to take a few more hits / get my Elden Bling on?

Most humanoid enemies and NPCs drop their armor sets and weapons. Discovery is a stat on your character sheet that dictates your loot drop rate. Increase your Discovery. Unique locations also have weapons and armor that sit in hidden places, you can always find and loot these.

Most bosses drop whatever they have immediately when killed or reward you with Remembrance, a consumable that can be used to collect 1 of 2 unique items associated with the boss.

If you want a really powerful armor that lasts late into the game, slay the Beast Champion at the Warmaster's Shack in Limegrave, and he will drop a bell bearing and a full set of heavy armor. He sells the tarnished his Ashes of war.

There are armor sets you can get from questlines

I'm ~ lvl60 and farther than Altus, I've been wearing the Vulgar set w/ wolf helmet and also the Royal Remains set that anyone should have from the hold circa lvl20

Is OP speccing any stat beside VIG? I think I have 28 and doing fine :)

I don't have anything that even looks good, is my point. Fashion souls all the way.

theres a crypt somewhere in atlus plateau that has a puzzle that drops tree sentinel armor. go find it for some of the game's best drip
There is? It's not past the castle is it? I explored pretty thoroughly and didn't find much, although I didn't explore in the volcano region.

nope, not in shaded castle. its accessible right upon entering it. it's in a secluded area between the outer and inner capital walls however

I didn't realize that about the jar knights. Anyways, are you talking about the area with the ghost beastmen and ancestor spirit? I've already done that area. Is there another part of Nokron that I missed?

Upper Nokron, but it only becomes available after you defeat Radahn. Liurnia has an underground area similar like that too, and so does the Atlus plateau.

It matters because it's not the right armor for me? I don't like how it looks or what stats it gives.

Most armor doesnt give casting or whatever stats boosts. Its there for the looks and the damage reduction.

Typically only unique headgear (not part of a set) and some unique chestpieces (less then a handful) give special stats or effect bonus. For example helms like those carved heads the mages in the academy wear, which give +Int. Or a chestpiece that increases the damage of your jump attacks.

I have the silver scarab but only one, so I didn't use it. I think my Arcane is 9. The Northern Mercenary is the one who drops the Kaiden set.

The Silver Scarab is a talisman. You can use equip it and use it for as much as you want. Just means you'll have one less slot to use for talisman. It increases item discovery by something like +80.

I still have no idea who that guy is, shrug. For that screenshot I posted earlier that enemy drops all the pieces of the armor he is wearing. Most humans are like that.

Probably killed a few dozen of that guy since I use him for damage testing and stuff. Have a bunch of copies of his set.

Also, unique npcs will typically drop their armor if they die.
Oh yeah, i'm thinking of silver pickled fowl foot. What's the drop rate like with silver scarab? Is it noticeably faster compared to nothing?

Actually, I just looked at the location. The silver scarab is still far into the game for me. At that point, i'm not sure if i'll actually need to farm any armor. Or at least, want to.

I dont do any farming myself so I dunno how much of a difference it is exactly. Most armor I have I got without using it, tho.
