Best Rune-farming Strategies

What are some of the best rune-farming locations and strategies that you use?

I've seen some level 120+ players with less than 100 hours in the game while others are still below level 80 with more than 150-200+ hours...

Please state your character's level, playtime in hours, and best strategies for accumulating runes as quickly as possible.

My save file got corrupted when my PC froze while the game was saving, so I had to start over with a new character.

Just wanted to know the best methods for accumulating runes so I can level up as quickly as possible.

Level 108 with around 72 hours iirc?

Didnt do anything special except I turn on taunters tongue while exploring and constantly gets invaded. If I die to an invader , I recover the runes before turning it on again and continue my exploration. Rince and repeat.

Great strategy is to just play through the game. Honestly, gets you alot of runes over time, you wouldn't believe.

On Mohgwyn’s palace, either shoot the birdor use Elden beast sword to clear out the mobs there.
13k for the bird
33-45k for the regular mobs depending on how good your aim is.
Takes like 5-10secs to do each.

helping people with bosses can net you a lot. just do that a for abit and you'll have a couple hundreds thousand runes

I mean there's the obvious one:
- Get to the palace of blood using White-Faced Varrés questline (can be done as soon as reaching Liurnia of the lakes)
- Use torrent to sprint through the area behind you when you spawn in (after lighting the first bonfire, turn around and hug the left side cliffs)
- Get to the second bonfire on the palace approach ledge
- Aim at the big undead crow looking thing walking in a pool of blood below you
- IMPORTANT: From the bonfire, facing the crow, stand about ten paces to your immediate right on the ledge. (because no one ever mentions this part)
- Shoot the crow with something, anything. You only need to hit it once. Then it will run off the ledge to its death, giving you about 10k runes.
Takes about ten seconds to execute. Likely the most efficient farming spot in the game.

I am Level 93 right now with 56h on my main character....

didnt farm too much. (did a bit of that 3 small guys near dragonbarrow bridge )
they give 1000 each and somtimes (very rarely for some reason i dont understand yet) ~5000

from the dragon barrow bridge bonfire just go right and then run a triangle for 3 backstab kills.
3000 xp takes 1 minute -> 180K xp per hour.

did some of that in early midgame before killing Godrick


When starting a new char i do kill the Black Knight after the bridge.
need to be night for that to be possible.

ride past dragon -> go left to second bridge
-> lure the knight so he falls down cliff and kills himself.

42.000 xp for an early start.
gets me to around level 28 or something within 20 minutes of the game

Apparently the game has a random chance to spawn some enemies with glowing eyes (yellow in this case I think). Those ones give like 5x the amount of runes when killed.

Im level 104 at 68 hours, only "farmed" 20 000 souls by killing little guys in Northern Caelid. All other runes have been aquired through exploration. For reference i have just arrived in Altus plateau, i have not been stuck at bosses long enough to stretch playtime.

why do you need to stand 10 steps to the right? i just go straight across from the grace. might hit a tree branch every now and then but no problems otherwise.

around 150k Runes in few Minutes

Big Knights and Insects 7-7,5k per Kill

Soldiers also droping Smithingstones in range of 6 till 8

why do you need to stand 10 steps to the right? i just go straight across from the grace. might hit a tree branch every now and then but no problems otherwise.

If I don't stand 10 paces or so to the right, the crow won't ever seem to run off the ledge when shot.
