Can NG+ ppl co-op with NG ppl?

am cleaning up the rest of what there is to do in ng1 but i'm dreading not being able to help friends on their new characters if i go to ng+

yes you can help them but I will warn you now. Im in new game +7 and there is literally no point. nothing new. not much harder. but everything is reset. Might as well make a new character

as a side question, do you retain your bell bearings at the twin maidens in NG+?

Some of them. I know for sure the ones that give you smithing stones and glovewort stay. I saw on the wiki that you lose some of them in the switch to NG+ but I dont know which off the top of my head.
