There are 3 other good staffs which are *technically* the best which are the Prince of Death staff, Gelmir Glintstone Staff, and Albinauric Staff. However, for the Prince of Death and Gelmir staffs to be better you basically need maxed out int *and* faith. For the Albinauric one you need int and arcane.
The staffs that boost a particular school of sorcery may outshine the Carian Regal Scepter, but not by much and that also means you're stuck to that school. The Lusat staff will outshine all others from the ridiculously high sorcery scaling except those 3 if you have both stats maxed out.
Put the meteorite in your left hand, use Lusat or whatever as your main, you still get the buff to Gravity spells \o/
You can finish the game using rock sling / Meteorite of Astel (for large boss) and a quick casting spell (star of ruin is nice) for super quick jumping around boss.
Enjoy, its a lot of fun. (Use Tiche as your summon, she wrecks !)
While you can do that, you only get the bonus from the school of spells, which isn't too much. I find that you're just better off having a weapon in the right hand and staff in the left.
Tiche is typically great for smaller things and the greatshield spirits are better for bosses.
Saying you can finish the game with just rock sling or meteorite is a testament to how bad sorcery is honestly.. they're both spells that deal physical damage and their damage is so high..
jokes aside, i have this strange obsession with being stupidly powerful before even progressing the story so now im before mohg before even stepping foot in leyndell. im over level 100 with 40 vigor and 80 int and after using all my potion charges theres not enough damage to finish him off
Isn't it hilarious how weak sorceries are? But everyone that doesn't play them will gladly tell you how ridiculously powerful you are..
You're going to want about 80 int, 20-30 mind, then 30 vigor. Then put points wherever you want. Also, of course +12 flask and as many charges as you can get.. Also for Mohg I'm fairly certain he has a gravity weakness? So rock sling, collapsing stars, and meteorite of Astel should all do well. Basically anything resistant to magic, which he obviously is, use gravity.
Of course you can always cheese the fight with the comet azur if you wanted to. I personally hate using the infinite FP for anything.
Get any sort of undead ashes.
Get the bell to summon them.
Get the Meteorite Staff and Rock Sling.
Get some memory stones to slow spells.
Get the vendor who can upgrade spirits setup.
Go grab the Moonveil.
20 Vig first.
15 End second.
22 Int 3rd.
18 Dex 4th.
Then start dumping points into INT until you get at least 40 points in INT
You should be able to pull enemies one at a time or whittle down one before the other gets close. You also have spells that hit in an AoE, so that can be used on weak enemies or situations where you are forced to face more than one enemy.
Phalanx skills are also good for aggressive foes, turtling foes or other situations where you don't have very long to cast.
Dodge happy enemies are weak to Phalanx and Magic GlintBlade.
You can use Terra Magica to buff your magic damage, as well as a physicks flask.
The spell gives +35% damage if you stay in the area, the flask +20% for a period of time.
-Invest in Vigor early on. More HP will be a godsend. Boost it to where you feel comfortable, I think I finished the game with about 40 or so total.
-Go grab the Meteoric Staff and Sling Rocks spell as soon as you can using that one warp chest in Agheel Lake. That staff is really, REALLY good early game and Sling Rocks helps for a lot of early bosses because A, it does physical damage and not magical, and 2, it can cause stagger buildup / break some bosses.
-Mind is something to work on for sure, but I would invest in some Intelligence first and foremost. Mind should probably be the third stat or so you work on? Again, when I beat the game, albeit kinda high-leveled, I had about 40 mind.
-Try to grab a good melee weapon for criticals and general "I'll hit it with my stick" usage. Dexterity is usually a good pick, so Moonveil is a good katana to work towards, and later on the Dark Moonlight Greatsword or whatever is another good choice (albeit that needs a bit more strength to use.) Before then, I think I used an Estoc, which you can buy from a merchant behind Stormveil castle and thus can get there before you even go in to fight Margit and Godrick.
-I usually stuck with 2-3 healing flasks and the rest magic ones. Was rough, but meant I had to keep my distance from enemies, which leads to my next point.
-Use summons. Lhutel the Headless is good, as is the Mimic once you get them, as are a few others. Wolves gives you multiple targets. The skeletal militiamen keep coming back unless the boss has a ground pound or something that persists on the ground afterwards. NPC summons before bosses can come in handy.
By far, my largest stat was Intelligence which I bolstered to 70 to use the "biggest spells in the game." They weren't too helpful, but my mimic summon used them a few times and they helped out a bit since both of the Moon incants make the enemy weak to magic damage then. Only time I ever felt like I needed a specific setup for a specific boss was the final two, when I used the Lost Staff in my non-main casting hand and used Night Cometstone or whatever, which gave it a free 30% boost or so which definitely helped out a bit.
