If they're undead have you by any chance tried Sacred Blade? You can get it very early and it appears to either be bugged or have a hidden mechanic allowing for far higher dmg against those weak to Holy than the AR and values would suggest even when compared to other holy buffs that give comparable AR in my testing.
They are JUST fast enough to not be entirely too slow for enemies like this. A lot of cautions poke jump attacks if they are in a group, or going hog wild with R1 then backing off after the combo ender (or a halberd, they seem, usually on par with jump flinch potential as a regular greatsword). As much because these guys are often padded health wise.
Also yeah, fire ammo seems a super letdown. Often it even deals a little less damage than just using regular store bought ammo. "This guy is made of trees! Maybe I will get some free damage in first... oh, huh..."
Still, if you think those guys are bad... Have you been down to the underground with the super mega ultra poise spear wielding guys? They don't flinch to anything less than a jumping attack with a regular greatsword or halberd (standing two handed charged swing won't flinch them, because....) and happily poise through power stance clubs.
Along those lines. Blunt weapons seem screwed over a lot. Same crit ratings mean hundreds less riposte damage than a sword you have upgraded and scale to the same AR. I still love my large club etc, but yeesh.
Even against trash like miners. A regular greatsword may bounce with R1's, but it flinches and then staggers them. While mister large club does not bounce, if it staggers them it deals less riposte damage even against guys made of rocks because ♥♥♥♥ you. (and a mace... does not flinch them at all. ♥♥♥♥ you strike damage),
Also, I think I heard (late game spoilers) At least one of the godskin duo is resistant to blunt because ♥♥♥♥ you blunt
So yeah... Use the biggest weapon that isn't too slow for you to avoid being constantly interrupted. Otherwise, settle in for "Even headshots with a longbow takes a silly amount of hits. I counter sniper marionette archers faster, yessh." to thin them out. Because you will have not killed them all, there will be ones that spawn when you cross onto a bridge or walk past a patch of dirt.
When all else fails? "♥♥♥♥ it, I'm sprinting past them to the next grace them backtracking for loot"
Encountered them a lot, and they're always a pain in the ass. Some people are saying holy damage is their weakness.
I suggest fire tough or just skip them! they are usually slow enough to be ignored
Another tip: if your armor is heavy enough ( above 50 i think) you can jump or roll near them to stagger them (no damage but it's a convenient CC)
They seem slightly weaker to holy, but still not quite on the level that skeletons and the Death Rite bird as mentioned. I still recommend holy if you really want to kill them, though. Just make sure they don't surround you. Corral them if need be. Back up and move around them to force them to group up and get close and just swing at the entire group.
