Ubisoft and Sony devs are salty about Elden Rings success
Over on Twitter, former Battlefield 2042 dev and now current UX Director at Ubisoft Ahmed Salama (Twitter profile is locked) pointed out that Elden Ring snagging a 97 average on Metacritic is “proof” that game critics don’t give a crap about game UX (user experience). In the same tweet, Nixxes Software (now a first-party Sony studio) dev Rebecca Fernandez O’Shea, and Senior Quest Designer of Horizon Forbidden West Blake Rebouche (Twitter profile locked) also threw shade by mentioning the faulting the game’s PC graphics, stability & performance, and even the quest design.

Not only that, but Salama also adds that the Elden Ring UX is so bad, he can only imagine FromSoftware devs are smoking in their desks and using CRT monitors, even.

Not only makes Ubicrap uninspired games with lootboxes aka suprise mechanics(or nfts) and sell their low effort ultimate editions for 120 bucks, they also think that players are dumb and need hand holding by every step they make.Well and gorilla games never interested me in the first place because im not that much into action adventures marked as rpgs but their games could be good.Still pathetic that they are jealous as well that elden ring is a way higher success than horizon. Well if people hating you are doing it right

I find the Horizon salt the funniest. The first Horizon was completely overshadowed by BOTW. Now Horizon 2 is completely overshadowed by Elden Ring.

Maybe the Horizon devs should make an innovative open world game instead of just copying the Ubisoft formula while their competition - BOTW and ER - are actually taking a unique approach and pushing the genre forward.

The unique thing about it is that it is such a bore and chore to play~ but somehow mesmerizes and has the fans talking greatness about it~ Thats the unique part of how this game affect human beings and the world today.... ;D

Imagine making a ps5 exclusive and then trying to say that the pc performance of another game shows yours is better.

We all saw the performance Horizone zero dawn had at launch on pc, these devs really shouldnt be speaking about any other games performance and go back to making sure it doesnt happen again when forbiden west launches on pc.

The UX/UI is pretty bad though lol. Map markers are tiny and use a color that blends in. Pressing the map button while looking at the map brings up some dumb stuff about controls instead of closing the map. No PS buttons option even though they have a setting to toggle between Xbox and Keyboard. Tiny status indicators that don't really tell you what they actually are forcing you to look outside the game and so on. Pretending the UI is perfect is just silly and shows that you can't actually look at things in an unbiased way. I mean Fromsoft was going to ship the game with an even worse UI but the fans complained about it.

Yeah indeed. UX/UI and performance are 2 very valid complaints about this game. I've never seen UI navigation this bad, and ive played hundreds of games.

Oddly enough also one of the few times navigation & control problems are also present when using a controller. So its not even just a case of a bad port.

It's unique for those who haven't played souls games. Merge the difficulty of a souls game with an open world that looks awesome. At least that is what I find unique about it.

Dont be an idiot and fall for the OP's bait. Horizon has nothing to do with it. They are just using it to spark tensions and get easy points like they did on reddit.

Wouldnt surprise me if they made videos and did the same with those.

Its CLICKBAIT

This is my first dedicated dark sous game and nothing about it really feels unique besides how much the game handicaps the player and disguises it as a "challenge". The world is big and has pretty sights but that's mostly it. The rest of it is dull. All castles look the same all ruins look the same some of the dungeons even look the same. It's like they just took a big map sprinkled random enemies all over the place and said "there you go, kill em".
There's almost no story. from where I'm at currently I've surmassed that I'm a 'tarnished' who randomly ended up where I am at now. I have no 'maiden' to guide me but one just randomly shows up gives me a mule and off I go in search of the one ring to rule them all. The story is probably the weakest part of this game easily.

I don't think this game is bad, it's decent. I's a solid 7-8 and I can see why dedicated souls fans would think it's a 10, But in regards to comparing it with Sony titles: God of War(2018) was a better game then this. Horizon is a more unique game then this, And Ragnarok will probably swipe GOTY away from this.

I am running the game at maximum graphical settings. Does that make me biased? The world looks and feels amazing. Also there's a bit more to the story but I don't want to post any spoilers. Other than that I would say you made some fair points.

I am as well and I will admit the world does look beautiful, But to me it still feels 'empty'. Like all there is to do is either dive the same looking dungeons or go find a random mob to bop.

It reminds me of Cyberpunk when it launched. You had this big beautiful open world but very limited things to do in it.

Do you think there will be added content in the future?

Elden Ring is a terrible port of an extremely overrated game.

If any other game company copy pasted as much as is copy pasted in ER people would be losing their minds.

The second half of the game is just fighting stuff you've fought already over and over again.

this. loved DS2 and DS3, played them to death. 20 hours into ER and it feels like a chore. "Did you like the last boss because now you get to fight two of them!". ER is a big empty dead world with some too short albeit fun dungeons scattered here and there. Are people really jerking it to skyboxes in 2022? Graphics dont make a game good, and this has old gen written all over it.

In all seriousness….god of war is a linear cinematic experience and elden ring here is a full blown action rpg with a huge focus on exploration role playing and freedom. You can’t compare this games but i get that some players aren’t into rpgs that much and want just hand holding in a game which plays like a movie

The compass is 100% unecessary and shouldn't be there
If they made HUD elements toggles, that would solve your concern. Don't take my compass though; I'm very fond of it.
