ELDEN RING
Ubisoft and Sony devs are salty about Elden Rings success
Over on Twitter, former Battlefield 2042 dev and now current UX Director at Ubisoft Ahmed Salama (Twitter profile is locked) pointed out that Elden Ring snagging a 97 average on Metacritic is “proof” that game critics don’t give a crap about game UX (user experience). In the same tweet, Nixxes Software (now a first-party Sony studio) dev Rebecca Fernandez O’Shea, and Senior Quest Designer of Horizon Forbidden West Blake Rebouche (Twitter profile locked) also threw shade by mentioning the faulting the game’s PC graphics, stability & performance, and even the quest design.

Not only that, but Salama also adds that the Elden Ring UX is so bad, he can only imagine FromSoftware devs are smoking in their desks and using CRT monitors, even.

Not only makes Ubicrap uninspired games with lootboxes aka suprise mechanics(or nfts) and sell their low effort ultimate editions for 120 bucks, they also think that players are dumb and need hand holding by every step they make.Well and gorilla games never interested me in the first place because im not that much into action adventures marked as rpgs but their games could be good.Still pathetic that they are jealous as well that elden ring is a way higher success than horizon. Well if people hating you are doing it right

I've been playing AC Origins recently and can't help but compare it with ER. It also has an open world, horse riding, horseback combat, a huge world to explore etc. What it lacks is the imaginativeness of ER's locations and enemies, although its recreation of Ptolemaic Egypt is historically accurate and beautiful at times. If we had ER with Origins' interface features and gameplay, it would be close to the perfect open-world game.

It is very easy for them to manipulate the gamers. Just throw some wood and see how gamers rage like mindless zombies. I do believe some gamers still hold their own opinions and are reasonable but most as mindless sheep that follow what other think or tell.

It is damaging tactic to flood game forum with negativity all it takes is a handful of such people that constantly complain - its to convert people in their beliefs with nothing good but to just create similar people like they are.

Zombie creatures that are very slow, have no ranged attacks and obviously with rotten brain? Noice example m9.

You said enemies in skyrim are dumb because they can't get around environmental obstacles. I showed you the same goes for enemies in ER. Now all of a sudden it's total perfect. You are a joke.
Beasts and soldiers can. You picked extreme example, while other open world games don't even have AI on the level of soldiers. More openly agressive attacks please.

I think a game with good UX and good gameplay is better than one with bad UX and good gameplay. I also think a game with good UX and bad gameplay is better than one with bad UX and bad gameplay.
Does Elden Ring have bad gameplay? Does Far Cry 6 have a good UX, in your opinion?
Haven't played FC6. I think I tried 3 or 4 (whichever one had the malaria thing) and was turned off from them forever.

Elden Ring has good gameplay, yes. That doesn't excuse the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UX that lacks even the most basic features other games figured out 20 years ago.

Dying IS PART of the souls like games. You ARE SUPPOSED to die a lot.
Difficulty is more about patience (don't be greedy, learn the patterns). It's very similar to mythic raid bosses in WOW (but solo).
The "no death run" is not really what the devs had in mind.
Thank you for your opinion without anything to support it.

Well actually, that's not a secret xD

Here's my assessment of Butcher: he knows he's wrong about what he's saying, but he's either trolling or trying to save face, so he can't simply admit he was wrong. He'll keep defending Elden Ring until he's blue in the face, no matter what.

You could point out things he's criticizing in other games that also exist in Elden Ring (and we have), and he'd simply hand-wave it away (and he has). He's peak fanboy, unwilling to admit his game is flawed even though he knows it is, and unwilling to admit he's wrong even though he knows he is.

In conclusion, conversation with this person is pointless. He's not interested in what you have to say, he's already decided you're wrong and he's right.
Did you just used ad hominem attack to attack me instead of my point and gave yourself "wholesome" award?

I also cheesed beasts and soldiers this way.

Ubisoft are doing garbage games but Ubi maps are looking great, i will give that. This is reason i am still playing Assassin's Creed games. I love time-travelling.

This. Would it really be so much to ask to have a journal/quest log so I don't have to remember what some NPC in the middle of nowhere asked me to do 10 hours ago?

I'm pretty sure you can't give yourself awards. That seems like a fairly basic design thing that Valve wouldn't forget about, like a quest log.

But no, I didn't give myself an award. That's silly in and of itself.

I can agree on this. I wouldn't go so far as to call the UX ♥♥♥♥♥♥, but From definitely lack in some technical areas that should have been addressed before now. That 60fps lock on PC is ridiculous in 2022. Does Elden Ring's UX impact your enjoyment that much? Genuine question.

According to a lot of fanboys, yes. You should just grab a pen and paper like you're back in the 80s and write everything down.
While I agree that nobody who worked on 2042 has any business commenting about another games success, I will agree that it feels like 99% of game journalists gave this game a perfect rating so they could suck off tolkien or whoever it was that helped design the world.

But sony still has another heavy hitter hack N slash open world game in it's arsenal this year: Ragnarok. I personally enjoyed the last GoW more then I'm enjoying ER right now so we'll see if Ragnarok can back up any smack talk sony is doing.
Japanese devs and some indie devs are the only people left that can make a game with soul.
