how do you open stormville main gate?

You have to progress through the castle until you find the mechanism.
It's right above him

i assume you mean the npc that asks which way you want to go? if so thank you, i will loop around

You can just refuse to use his route and then he'll order the soldiers to open the gate after you walk up to it.

You will want to have him open the gate, possibly, but you will probably get owned if you try to go that way.
