Disable auto-centering camera should be #1 priority.
Even before performance fix.

The auto-centering camera needs a disable option.

I've seen it the first minute I launched the game.
I'm pretty sure that, though most people can't put their finger on it, it's the main reason KB/M players find it unplayable.

Even with a controller it's annoying as hell when you like to wander peacefully between areas and look around, so I can't imagine what a game deciding where you should look must be like when playing with a mouse.

This was fine for DS3, but it's not acceptable for an open world game, especially one with such great vistas and so much stuff to find. We need to be able to look where we want.

For those who don't understand what I'm talking about, or think there's a way to avoid this, there isn't, and I'm talking about the fact that the camera rotates on its own to face forward as soon as you move and fights you when you try to turn it on your left or right while on the move.

EDIT: There is an unofficial solution to this mentionned in the post marked as answer, right below.
Doesn't solve everything, though, your camera will not move when you move your character, but your character will still turn when you turn the camera.

!! Do not use online !!

EDIT2: I've been a bit unfair to this FromSoft it seems.

I had a few minutes in front of me, so I fired up the PS5, to try Ghost of Tsushima.
I could swear this didn't happen in it or most other 3rd person games, but the camera behaves the same.

So really, it's just that camera controls in videogames are outdated, and Elden Ring is the one game that made me realize this.

I feel like most gamers today would know how to handle a camera that's completely independent from the player's movements and vice versa, but we're stuck with this in every game.

It's particularely painful in ER, especially when you get duo bosses, you need to get both in your field of view at all times while being able to freely move around the combat area, but it's next to impossible to do it constantly with a camera that follows your movements and movements that follow your camera.

Still, this needs to change, and the fact that all games do this doesn't change the fact that it's outdated, quite the opposite even.

For Special K users it can also be loaded as a plugin (so the separate mod loader does not need to be used) -- just add the following snippet of code to the bottom of SpecialK.ini:

[Import.CameraFix] Architecture=x64 Role=ThirdParty When=Early Filename=G:\Games\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game\mods\CameraFix.dll

I have no idea what are you talking about. I have over 3,000 hours on DS1, DS2 and DS3 with K&M and ER's camera is no different

Me! You are me! I feel so alone in my struggle. Here is what I think about it (copy/paste):

There is one thing nobody talks about. That thing made me quit the game and get a refund.

The camera auto centre.

So if you're PC KBM player like me, you probably played a lot of 3rd person games, like WoW, GW, early Tomb Raider etc. Well, the camera in Elden Ring is very different. Imagine running and looking around. The world is gorgious, lots of things to explore, so we could assume looking around is a basic thing you do. Not in Elden Ring. Here you can't look around while running! You're no allowed to look. The camera automatically centres so when you look around you have to constantly fight the camera untill you run out of mouse space. It is ridiculous, unbearable.

Refunding felt soo bad... I feel like a father mercy killing his own terminally sick child. I don't know how people can play like this. Don't know how nobody is talking about this. How this made past the reviews. I feel betrayed.

I feel like I'm different. Or am I? Here is topic about it and others feel like me too. Look: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/t12zx6/is_there_any_way_to_turn_off_the_camera/

+1 Find myself constantly fighting against the game for control of the game. Extremely annoying.
SG Feb 27, 2022 @ 8:46am
I play with a controller, but I do face this problem. I find difficulty moving ahead with the camera facing the side to follow some things up. The camera keeps moving to the direction I'm facing.

But it's not a game killer. Although I'm really puzzled why devs didn't include an option to disable it.

But I'll be honest. I don't think the devs will do anything about this. I think they recycled DS3's engine which means it's in the essence. Changing this will require an overhaul.

Agreed. Auto centering is very annoying, even on controller too. To not have an option to disable it is even worse. Yet another dev forcing what we have and not giving a choice.

I played Elex a while back, and though that game has a lot of faults, one thing they got right is the camera. It stayed wherever you put it. No such luck with Elden Ring.

I 100% agree with the OP. The camera recentering, ESPECIALLY during boss fights and any focused enemy fights, is absolutely maddening. It should have a way to turn it off....

Swapping weapons and items should be much easier to do, as well.

Good job not reading the post buddy.
There is such a thing as not replying when you have nothing to contribute.

You have no problems with it? Fine.
But please tell me, how would an option to disable something you have no problem or maybe aren't even aware of be a problem for you?

See, there actually are a lot of threads about this, but they keep sinking to the bottom because the forums are flooding with stuff far less important that get more replies.

Also, as I said, I really think a lot of people have a problem with it, but they feel it, without being able to put their finger on what the issue is exactly.

Yes please.
Being forced to play KBM (please fix controller support) does in fact make it extra painful.

It's actually VERY annoying with a controller already when you like to stroll and enjoy the view.
But try playing with keyboard/mouse for an hour and you'll see it become a game killer.

I've talked to several streamers and upon some explanation and testing they finally understood what I mean, admited the issue, but said it's not really that bad. But it is game breaking to me.

Streamers are all the same type of player who can't appreciate a game, that doesn't suprise me.
It's not much of a problem when all you ever do in games is rush forward like a headless chicken.

Hard agree.
