Just cancel the decrypt process and download from scratch. After launch the game is already unpacked/decrypted and a fresh downloading could be faster for your case insteadi of messing with the preloaded files.

Steam pre-load 101. Avoid preload with size of around 50GB or more if your CPU(more important, recommend AMD 3600 or faster), less than 16 GB RAM and drive is slow. DOWNLOADS has 2 portions for preload, the initial internet downloading and then files decrypting after launch.

thats what im trying rn. i cancelled the decrypting, clicked deinstall and restarted the download. Steam jumped immediately to 40GB progress and isnt doing anything since then...

You have to have about 50 GB free on the drive it's being unpacked on. If there isn't enough space left, Steam won't let you know this and will just stall on unpacking infinitely. tl;dr the encrypted data and the decrypted data have to temporarily coexist and requires the space to hold the unpacked game files before the encrypted data is deleted after unpacking
i have like 300gb free on my HDD. i wanted to put it on my SSD but FF14 has filled it to the max xD
Get rid of ff14 then

find the folder of elden ring and try to cancel that folder. then uninstall, restart steam and try to reinstall it again. it should simply let you install it without the unpack method.

If mine takes almost 2 hours and yours is taking 11 then there's a problem with your PC/HDD.

I had the same issue with God of War when it came out. I pre-loaded it onto a HDD and it would not unpack like the last 4 percent and was just stuck there forever. I had to actually cancel the preload install. I then just did the normal download after that and it installed fine for me. I have 32gig of Ram, Ryzen 5 2600x and a 2070 RTX and the game being on a HDD didn't matter when I was installing it the second time. It unpacked and installed in less than 30 minutes if I remember.

Its downloading rn. 20 more minutes and i finally might play it. Thx for all the help.
