Weapon itself doesnt matter. But the type.
you swing both weapons at once using the "block" button.
Some weapons seem to have wildly arbitrary rules. Like, the Pick axe is a war hammer type. But it can't power stance with other war hammers. Just other pick axes.... and great axes.
The few I know of or heard of seem like odd edge cases (a wakizashi "dagger" working with katanas? okay sure. A pick axe "big smash in a mine, like a big hammer, duh" demanding great axes? what are you even doing?) but I would not be surprised if there are perfectly normal weapons for their listed category that tell you to go ♥♥♥♥ yourself trying to power stance in that category too.
Yeah I pretty much only dual stance weapons in this game since it's so fun. My current favourite couple is.. magic godskin stitcher with gintstone pebble aow and a cold great epe with glintblade phalanx aow.
Easy stance breaks.. good dmg and range. I fell in love with them. And yeah if you wanna increase your greatsword dmg .. dual stance them. You will see that everything is easier with dual wielding. More dmg.. more poise breaks.. more usefull jump attacks.
I did run with 1 giant crusher and the big red hammer for half the ng+ playthrough. The stagger potential is insane. Dmg not so much tho.
