Can anyone explain why she turned into a giant ball at the end of her quest? I really liked he as a character and while confusing i enjoyed her quest. It really bummed me out for her to pledge her loyalty to me and then i rest and head back and she's suddenly some stupid f*cking ball with no reason whatsoever...

not entirely sure but I think it might be some sort of curse, punishment or having to much power for a sorcerer? Maybe the effects of glintstone magic? I know that in other sorcerer tower, some of the mages had transformed into a ball like sellen.
It definitely didn't sound like it was her intention to turn into that.

During his quest, you encounter 2 other archmages.
Lusat had his brain and skull transformed into a giant blue stone.
Azur have some green glintstones grow over his brain.

This is what happens with 100+ intelligence.

My own theory is Rennala came back and annihilated Sellen for daring to presume she gets to run the show now. And we unfortunately can't kill Rennala.

My theory:
We meet her RIGHT as she believes she have fought baby-girl as we know is just an illusion created by her daughter to keep her safe.

During this fake fight she abused her glintmagic to the point it consumed her and transformed into the rockhead.

Lore regarding that can be found on the Graven School / Mass Talisman and some is dropped by herself:
She needs her 2 peers who got banished along with her. This whole primeval sorcery deal seems to require combining the power of multiple people.
Lusat and Azur(?) both got pretty far on their own and Sellen sems to 'harvest' what they got.

Most people. when going down this path end up as these grotesque balls but gain some higher insight apparently. Maybe Sellen thought she was good enough to control the process and still stay human, but overestimated herself.

The game deals a lot with the themes of ambition and how it becomes your downfall, so it kinda tracks, I guess.

I would argue its more likely the effect of someone else. Azur and Lusat were ancient mages and they didnt turn into graven schools. Their form (mostly replaced by glintstone) seems more an ultimate form.

Graven schools seemed more like something mages would turn others into.

Sorry, but this is pretty straight forward:
The primeval current is a forbidden tradition of glintstone sorcery. To those who cleave to its teachings, the act of collecting sorcerers to fashion them into the seeds of stars is but another path of scientific inquiry.

Both of them didn't turn into graven schools because they were forced to work alone for the time being.

Sellen gave no indication to turn into that because she thought _she got this_ and it was the right way to do magic, fundamentally.

Rennala HIDES, while she overtakes the academy and is a babbling idiot essentially. Her breakup rellay did a number on her ; )
And there's no one else to interfere.

Yes, turning others into graven schools. Atleast I havent found any information that confirms whether or not mages would seek to turn themselves into one.

Aside from the one person that actually does interfere at that exact spot earlier on, also when Rennala was involved.

You forget that Sellen's point was to have Rennala take a back seat, after which she was relegated to a dark corner.

Why then, if this was Sellen's intent, is Rennala back in the center and she herself off to the side?
