Sorceress Sellen
Can anyone explain why she turned into a giant ball at the end of her quest? I really liked he as a character and while confusing i enjoyed her quest. It really bummed me out for her to pledge her loyalty to me and then i rest and head back and she's suddenly some stupid f*cking ball with no reason whatsoever...

This can applied to pretty much every questline in the game.

most questlines will end tragically and people get "consumed" by their own "flame" of ambition, one way or the other.

Except for the Player (mostly) and best girl ofc

I think actually 1 or 2 story endings are directly related to you the player being consumed as well. So I can confirm this is the trend of Elden Ring is the option of descending into madness.

It's your responsibility as future Elden Lord to lead these people. That means give Sellen a new body but then don't summon in the academy. Just stop at that point. Also, do not fight Alexander at the end - just let the poor guy live ;)

No, as my first playthrough will show I hacked up most the npcs, and especially the prick ones giving me confusing quests.
Only npc that gets any respect or life is the mage Renalia I work for, and that's because her quest is clear, and she shuts the hell up almost entirely for the game. No bs confusion, no bs magic npc died, and ruined your quest. Honestly fk every confusing npc. Cut them down. :praisethesun:

pretty sure if you don't summon that fight's going to happen anyway, and Sellen is a squishy mage that doesn't have the spells that are actually useful for fighting, she is extremely dead the moment Jerren comes for her.

I wonder if it does if you just wait and do nothing, or if the quest stays at this point indefinitely...

I did most of her quest after finishing the game. So technically you could just abandon it any point you want if you want a "happy" ending.

it'll stay at that point forever because the game doesn't want to lock out content if you don't notice the summon signs, at least I'm pretty sure of that, the game is pretty good about not locking off content outside of Hyetta's quest with it's 1/2 quest critical NPC invasions that can get cut-off by beating the wrong bosses

I'd say that not finding Lusat and doing everything else is probably the happiest ending for her. Sure, it'll stop her from going all in on her research, but we know how that goes...

I think freeing her from eternal agony is the nice thing to do ;) And then just don't help her with her misguided ambitions.

I haven't tried it yet, but you might be able to snipe her while you're in the elevator area. Though being a demigod she'll probably just phase out of existence during the hit animation.
You can aggro others in "safe areas" by sniping them while you yourself are not *cough* Patches *cough* he thought he was safe.

So what's causing this specific bug anyway? I'm also stuck with the father just not invading.

Is it a result of beating the region bosses?

Have you met the gem mage yet? So as the story will kinda shine a light on, experimenting with gem magic somehow caused this form of leaving the mortal vessel, and it seems very clear to me story wise that at some point in gem magic you eventually become more gem, natural type of stone resonating magic then human.

Seems the obvious reason for this is that at some point the hypothetical refraction, power in which the gems are required becomes far too great for a mortal body. Eventually they must ascend into a form that assists in the growth of gem power.

Having seen the gem wizard now, and seeing the others in castles had become entirely stone orbs of multiple consciousness, (guessing that by all the faces,) tells me this is prob true.

Was sorta thinking the same thing about how Gemstone Magic must lead to this. When doing Sellen's quest, you end up finding Lusat and Azur; upon completing the quest and going back to their spots, you get the armor.

Based on the description for the head pieces, it mentions that they basically replaced their head with the respective Glintstones; however I think they where likely discovering a more "proper" way to evolve as (while they ended up where they did), they DIDN'T turn into the balls.

Then you go to these towers where the mages seemingly are gone, and those are the ones you see the ball. My "head-cannon" based on this is:
- If you do everything right, you will slowly transplant natural organs/tissue with the Glintstones to contain the powers your are discovering
- Else, you are tampering with magics far stronger than your vessel, and are effectively "absorbed" by the power and added to the collective.

I feel like Lusat and Azur may have also been experimenting with the power of Green and Blue Glintstone as they have the two colors, and the "armor" is setup so one had higher stats than the other in alternating spots (like they where trying to discover which stone could hold more power). Plus, we do get actual Glintstones where you break them to let power out - further leading me to believe they can be turned into magic batteries with enough know-how.

EDIT: And this may also be why the remaining Raya Lucarians/Selian's in Caelid have the stone crowns on; it is probably the only things stopping them from joining Sellen (but as there is not enough glintstone for crazy stuff, that could be why the ball is also the crowns).
