This genre works very well and makes you want to discover new things, leaving out the gameplay part, but everything related to the Lore is not boring and makes you want to play more runs.
A horror title would have a beginning and an end, nothing more, so why should they castrate their creativity with something that would be short-lived?
To be honest I think FromSoftware already castrate themselves when they keep making the same game over and over instead of creating something new.
Let the genre blossom by giving other studios opportunity to make these kind of games. Currently there's no incentive to make souls-like games because it's impossible to compete with FromSoft.
How many companies do you know that deal with the same kind?
Only two, From Software and Koei Tecmo, all the rest are just indie titles of little importance and without multiplayer.
Nowadays almost all developers prefer to follow mechanics and genres that have existed and copied for years, just like it happens with mmo and battle royale to make money, the same thing happens with "Activision" shooters is an example of attachment to money and there is no has never been anything innovative, also considering the prices at which titles are sold in which there is a beginning and an end and closely linked to multiplayer plus.
At the moment there is no company able to go this far, not only in terms of gameplay because they could do better, but everything that involves the creation of a world so vast and told about intuition and through lore, what for nothing easy, the mechanics will be very different from the old Dark Souls in many things, such as the weather that will be present and will determine some changes and the fact that it will be an open world with several dungeons, this will make you feel even more immersed in the game world that will no longer be limited to single areas giving the possibility to explore freely.
I believe that this is a big step forward and not being the first title they will develop, because it will be a series, in the future there will certainly be further improvements, but I repeat it is the only company capable of creating something unique and that works.
Sekiro was quite different game compared to Souls games, it did share some mechanics.
Elden Ring will be first open world game.
So i don't think you could compare to Copy/Paste COD franchise filled with live services and microtransactions.
there are plenty of horror games on steam.

They don't. It is just what they are currently best know for.
They used to be know for the Armored Core series.
So Dark Souls was their different game, though they have many others as well.

Don't mind me, just a Global Moderator passing by.
I agree that their games are getting stale and with other companies trying to emulate them its getting to a point where i don`t care anymore.
It would be nice seeing them make something entirely different and i would really like to see a Zelda game from Fromsoft. Either 3d or one similar to A link to the past on SNES.
What do you guys think about a Zelda game from Fromsoft? Yay or Nay and what would you have expected from it?
