The game doesn't have any kind of skillbased or beginnerfriendly matchmaking, which isn't ideal in general. The balancing is questionable, too. But it's a very casual shooter, so there isn't much to learn and there are indeed many new players around. You also have the possibility to play other gamemodes (story, PvE) to learn the basics.

Conclusion: Very easy to get into it.

not at all, i started a few weeks ago and i'm having a blast. I avoided Heroes vs Villains this whole time, and only last week I tried it and it's like breathing new life into the game for me. A totally different learning curve than standard mp/ coop.

I got it last week and it's pretty good so far, there's good variety in the gamemodes and in playstyles. You should try it.

there's no such thing as "too late" to start however I recommend playing co-op first (plus joining on days where they give x2 xp) since surprisingly there's way more high leveled players than newbies and really it's not that cool having basic gear vs a team that has their cards (way more hp, less weapon cooldown etc) maxed

One stupid question. Steam charts says that only 5k players play this game, but it was free on Epic, does the playerbases mix?

For the love of god.. ofc it does. It doesnt only in case of console games unless they have crossplay enabled.

PC player base is mixed between all three platforms (Steam, Epic and Origin). Steam is only tracking players launching directly via the Steam client.

The player base is very healthy on PC right now.
