I'd love to see it patched because it's the one major technical issue I have with the game
I imagine it also depends on hardware like someone running on lower end hardware or a slow hard drive may have stuff loading in slower while people on higher end hardware and a fast drive will have stuff load instantly.
I notice the pop in all the time while playing, with around 30-40 speed upgrades and running around with Ring Counter Boost, My game is installed on an NVME so as soon as the object hits draw range, it instantly pops in because load times are not the issue, draw distance is, I play on a 10900k with a 3060ti and 32gb sys ram, Solid 60fps the entire time
and if you are thinking: ok, but what if we load the models without the heavy weight stuff?! well, it would certainly lead to even more weird things happening, like things cliping trough Platforms with no collision, ennemies going past the ground and stuff. so, the pop in, as ridiculous as this sounds, is the best way to make the presentation as best as possible.
and to be clear: i am not defending this. they could had invested more time into baking more scenery elements on top of those platforms, and eventually replacing them with natural scenery into the bigger island so this issue would not apply at the end of the day. but honestly, it would take maybe more 5 years of Dev time so the game would be complete. something that in an ideal world would not be an issue, but given how this is a coorporation we are talking about, it seems like 5 years dev time is the maximum of risk a company is willing to take nowadays (remember MGS:V?! yeah...). if it takes too long and the coorporatiion doesn't see returns, they start to get jumpy... "Eto Capitalism", as doktor would say. (and tbh, ignoring the pop in issue wich would take 5 more years to solve, i'd say the game needed a bit more of polishing on top of it. maybe 1 or 2 more years to polish the bugs, and the jankiness of the physics too... would take forever, yes, but would make the game be even better than it is today. even considering we have an entire island that is empty .)
Folks who have actually played the game themselves notice the pop in far less often than you would looking for it in videos.
Sure, it's there. Buts it's not remotely the end of the world.
Even on the times I have noticed it in game, it never took me out of the experience.
I say this 12 hours in and with two islands fully explored.
If people want to complain, let them complain.
Maybe they'll even make a difference someday.
The rest of us are having fun with the game as it is now, warts and all.
lets be very clear, the pop in exists and its the worst kind to have in this game, not owning the game does not change facts.
Also your opinion is absolutely irrelevant and has zero value. We are basically talking about a specific issue, that impacts gameplay heavily, and it exists across all platforms.
Its a legitimate complain regardless of owning the game. Also this complaint was completely ignored after sega showed first gameplay with pop in issue (5months before release), release version has still the issue which is huge deal.
So when you tell others, yeah its still fun game or the issue is not that bad, you are talking horse shhht, you basically have no value to engage in such topic related to this game, same for OP.
Sonic fans waited 5 years to only get a game that has been cut and pasted far too many times, including with serious technical issues and performance issues. Worst, it comes also with premium price which is pretty silly for what it is and offers.
There is definitely a huge concern and the evidence are very clear, but some of you are avoiding the concern for some pathetic personal reasoning that has no value here. Facts are facts, you cant change or influence such thing.
Sega deserves the heat they are getting, this game should have been delayed at least 6 months. Also, those fake high review scores are not gonna help them hide the core issue the game has.
yes it is bad, yes it is unexcuseable for a high priced game. could they've baked the scenery so the pop in would not be an issue? yes. did they have time for it?! no.
not to mention the scope of this game would be different. for what i heard, someone datamined collision meshes for islands 4 and 5 togheter. wich helps explain that this game at the very least was rushed, even with the 5 year dev. cycle. once again, in an ideal world, this game would have more time. but SEGA wanted it early. what gives then?!
if anything the modders will restore the cut content, same thing that happened with forces. it is not the end of the world, man.
Enjoy my blog post.
The facts may not change, but your subjective experience sure does.
Which is all I was saying,
If you actually played the game, you'd likely find the pop-in issue far less of a problem when you're actually playing it instead of just watching it.
I don't see any value to what you're saying beyond the mild amusement I'm getting out of it right now.
You say "it impacts the gameplay heavily".
I say that's a load of nonsense cause people who actually played the game don't find it impacts remotely as much as you're making it sound.
Again, play the game for yourself.
Yes. It is a legitimate complaint.
Yes, I can agree that some extra time to polish would've been nice if these specific technical concerns could be addressed in that time.
But that didn't happen so now your only choice to make is if you want to enjoy the game yourself or just keep getting mad at other people who are having a good time in spite of the flaws.
The topic had no real value to begin with.
What exactly did you (or the many others making new threads about this tired topic) hope to accomplish?
No seriously. What do you expect to have happen?
Maybe there may be a later patch down the line, but I'm not holding my breath on that.
If your hope is to tell Sonic Team for "next time" then I'd suggest you find a communication medium that is more likely to actually reach them.
No one at SEGA keeps an eye on these forums.
Yeah, I know. I was there every step of the way for every game released since the originals.
Do you have cause to be mad, perhaps.
But in the end, we don't know all the details behind the development.
Heck, many of the best loves Sonic games were made under serious crunch and skeleton crews.
You start to appreciate how good even that "bad" games managed to be once you know what happened behind the scenes.
But hey, I'm sure as a Sonic fan you already knew all that. /s
Yeah, like the fact that you probably haven't actually played the game yourself so your opinion on how much the technical flaws affect the experience are exaggerated.
You want to argue that the pop-in exists? Sure. We can all agree it does.
You want to argue that it makes the game bad and unplayable? Now we must disagree.
Keep getting angry. It just makes you look like you're mad at other people enjoying something that you aren't and you want to being them down to your level so you can feel less alone.
Heck, you're probably protecting your ego doing that because if you're purposefully denying yourself from playing this game because of its flaws, saying to yourself that it must make the game bad, then seeing all these people actually recommending the game even with all those flaws must be causing some massive cognitive dissonance.
Hope you can resolve that soon.
Sure, a bit of heat for the technical flaws is definitely merited.
"Fake review scores" sounds like cope in the sense that all review scores are fake.
Arbitrary numbers are meaningless.
And sure, even Steam Reviews have so much selection bias that they'll never line up with the likes of Metacritic.
But, and this is a big but, if the overwhelming majority of players who actually bought and played the game are okay giving it a recommendation to others who might be interested,
then I find that a lot more useful of a metric than some arbitrary review score.
Now, I can agree that maybe an extra 6 months could've ironed out the technical issues.
But whether or not that was possible is not something that we know.
It's not like SEGA just prints money like Nintendo does.
Still, I cannot stress this enough, even with the technical jank, the game is still the most fun I've had with a new Sonic game since Generations came out.
---end of quotes--
You know, at first I wanted to get angry at you and poke fun at you but in the end, what's the point?
You're clearly upset over this.
And the technical issues being called out are real but whether they actually matter that much in the grand scheme of things is debatable.
And I'd be willing to bet that you might find yourself enjoying the game yourself if you gave it a fair shot.
After all this time, after the years of disappointments, I'm just too tired to get mad over a silly thing like the pop-in of floating platforms and springs.
I'm getting too old to go on another crusade.
While you're being a forum warrior, I'm having a good time with the game.
My wife is playing the game on PS5 in parallel while my friends and neighbors play it on Switch.
We're all having a good time, enjoying the gameplay, the story, and generally bringing positive vibes to each other over our shared love of Sonic.
It's a chance to reconnect with the series that brought us all together in the first place.
And I'm not about to shi!t on all that just because of some pop-in.
Feel free to complain all you want. I don't think it'll do you any good and I think the negative emotions will end up doing you some real harm.
But you do you. I'm not your mom.
