Does the PC version have noticeable pop-in still?
I originally tried to play this on PS5 back when it came out, but ended up dropping the game for a few reasons, but one notable one was that I hated how the game looked with platforms, tracks, and rails popping in very close to the character, it's very distracting and I thought actively hurt the game.

I saw the DigitalFoundry video on it and seems very similar to the console version but I was curious if there any updates or mods that maybe did something about this, brought up the frame rate or anything like that. If there's not, I'll probably just pass on the game as it's just not worth playing for me if they had to cut corners like that to get the game to run.

It was never officially fixed but there are mods to fix it.

Thank you, that's what I was looking for. It's kinda funny how removing pop-in sorta emphasizes the poor art design of this game, but not having that very aggressive pop-in happening constantly makes it a much nicer experience. Might have to see about picking it up and give this mod a try now.

Sonic is basically navigating a computer network system and its using his memories to create a physical representation to help him navigate which includes rails, springs, platforms and the other usual stuff. Sure it looks tacky but at least there is a "lore reason" that can assist in immersion if necessary and kind of reminds me of that bit in Mass Effect 3 when Shepard goes into the Geth network: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=103dT8VHkyA
Honestly though at the end of the day its a Sonic game and isn't much different than any other game where there are random platforms and springs everywhere. The main difference is the tech demo looking scenery as Shadow Generations feature the same layout but since it actually looks like a Sonic game it isn't as out of place.

I can certainly understand the reasoning behind why it is what it is, but it still just means it's taking what Sonic is best at, which can be cool, colorful, and fantastical settings, and just puts him in a realistic, empty, Unreal tech demo level with rails and ramps strewn about all haphazardly.

It's not the worst thing, I was okay with the game when I put a few hours into it on console, I just wish that when they decided to do their version of Breath of the Wild, they would've also gone with a nice art style along with it.

Yes, very. Any time your camera is facing the sky and you're running around you'll see crap popping in. Ignore the bozos acting like this is for immersion with the glitchy computer world, it's not. It's just incompetence.

You say that like anyone else is actually here and I didn't even say that.
