So after the final update for Frontiers, what's next for Sonic Team?
What sort of game do you all think could possibly follow up Sonic Frontiers, and how well do you think they could pull it off?

In terms of gameplay for the next game, I'd hope that they take what worked with Frontiers and roll with it, as well as continuing to revise stuff based on critic and fan feedback. Morio Kishimoto has been doing a pretty decent job at listening to feedback online, and it also sounds as if SEGA will be increasing budgets for Sonic going forward. So honestly, I could see them doing a bigger budget sequel to Frontiers with (hopefully) original levels added in rather than recycled past stages.

In terms of story, I'd love to see them try something different. Frontiers gave Sonic the electric powers seen in the Sonic movies, so I would love to see more of those elements in the story of the next game. What if the story covered who Sonic's parents were, why he was abandoned, maybe introduce Longclaw who reunites with Sonic after years of not seeing each other.

Superstars and after that assuming it's half decent,
another decade(s) of disappointment..
Or if we are lucky an advance collection.

I think Sonic Heroes is getting a remaster... or a remake. Either way, I'm jumping on that train as soon is pulls into the station.

if they unerf Glider and Flyer types i will be onboard to but if they keep them nerfed will just stick with Sonic Classic Heroes where Knuckles and Tails move sets are intact...

Just to add, I'm mostly referring to modern Sonic with this thread. Also Superstars is being developed primarily by Arzest and not Sonic Team

The sequel to Sonic Frontiers. Or at the very least, the next game built on a similar foundation. Here's hoping that it expands upon what this game did and make it even better next time!

Like NBOX said it'll be the same foundation since they tend to work in what the community has dubbed "eras" for example there's the classic era, adventure era, boost era, and now we're heading into the open zone era or whatever it'll end up being called so for "modern sonic" its going to be another Frontiers type game.

Tbh I'm very curious to see how the next game will go and if they'll lean more into spin dash than boost because imo Frontiers is still a boost game at its core but the franchise is clearly going in a new direction so Frontiers might as well be the next era and sort of rebrand from the "boost era" despite relying on boost.

We lack a good Sonic Mega Collection-esque remaster collection for older titles, really. Sega Mega Drive Collection is just an MD collection. A big, upscaled library of past content such as comics, cinematics, and behind-the-scenes, plus a collection of handheld and console titles adapted for modern systems up to Sonic Unleashed would be great, not gonna lie. I'm even up for a revisiting of a Sonic JRPG a la Chronicles.
