What is the point of super if you can just go hyper?
I like the idea that its Super Sonic with an infusion of Cyber energy - That sort of biz opens up a whole new level of the rabbit hole.
When Sonic & co get the chaos emeralds in every game, it's usually in the nick of time. They don't really have time to grab the emeralds, run to angel island, perform the ritual, transform, then fight off whatever it is. Hyper sonic is also a very local form, considering sonic activates it while he's still on angel island (or close to it, anyways). He can't just bring the super emeralds with him, so if the big bad is all the way across the world then they're just sh*t out of luck.
Basically, hyper isn't as simple as "go super then go hyper lol", Hyper is a very specific form that requires very specific circumstances for Sonic to pull off (much like his other super forms, like Darkspine or Excalibur)
Hopefully Sega changes their mind with how successful the game is.

Although I do wonder how much Frontiers was held back by Switch, I've seen some "leaked" footage of Super Sonic vs Giganto and level of detail seemed a lot bigger. It was like 5 seconds of footage so there wasn't much to analyze.
Though it wouldn't surprise me either if the switch is the reason the game was toned back from that original preview. Stupid Nintendo with their barely ps3/360 era hardware holding everyone back like usual.
I wonder how many people there are in Sonic Team though, because it would help the next game's development if there's more people working together to produce things efficiently.
Sega could just not bother like they did with the home console version of Sonic Generations. But I know they won't because they'd be missing out lots of sales from the many Switch fans.
They could make an alternative low-end version of the same game like they did to Unleashed.
But I know they won't because who even does that sort of thing in the modern gaming age?
You can find whole videos on youtube about Hyper Sonic and why he should return and why this trailer may indicate that.
Not saying it is going to happen, but there is at least an argument to be made. Ian Flynn wants Hyper Sonic back in the series, with how well this game has done and how some other things he was evidently told "no" on were re-added in these 3 free updates, I wouldn't bet against him or Hyper returning, if not in this game, the next.
What's the point of being level 1 if you can be level 2? You build up to it.
It doesn't bend reality in the real world and The Starfall Islands is not Cyber Space.
Portals are simply just a way to access this digital realm, but there are also Cyber Cages that traps those to stay in Cyber Space. Removing one causes the residual energy that powered those cages to be absorbed into Sonic, although this doesn't fully restore the captive's physical form as if they haven't properly transferred back to the real world.
I mean this is why I don't think it make sense that Sonic's cyber corruption from the cages could turn him into Hyper Sonic. It's not something that is similar to how the Phantom Ruby (from Sonic Mania and Forces) works by having reality-warping powers except it could somehow replicate the extreme ultimate power of the elusive Super Emeralds.
Cyber Space is just a digital region like the trope itself[tvtropes.org] and the cyber energy that Sonic get from the cages is basically radiation.
I think you have a different interpretation on how Sonic Frontiers handles Cyber Space as if it leaks to and affects the real world or that The Starfall Islands are part of Cyber Space when it's actually the other way around - the islands just powers the technology.
Were these videos made after the teaser?
Even so, that doesn't change how generally most people don't even think of Hyper Sonic when they reacted to the teaser based on what I'm seeing on social media.
Ok, "plenty" might be exaggerating, because I really don't know, it's not like I took a poll of all sonic youtubers, but my point was that more people than just me and that other commenter thought "Hyper Sonic".
DBZ was trash with power scaling I hope we won't get Super Sonic 3 then 4 then Super Sonic God or whatever...
This is a reason why I prefer shonens that aren't nekketsu (or just seinens).
The Super Emeralds in Sonic 3&K are non canon and were just a bonus for people that purchased both games and to give Tails a super form.
This^
Even Dragon Ball already went a bit too overboard with SSJ3 since the whole purpose of SSJ is to make the user reach their limits.
