Fans and critics alike give it incredibly low scores for how unpolished and unfinished it was.
Fans agree with the general reception, and barely anybody bought it.

Pokemon BDSP comes out:
Critics give it high scores, but fans despise it for how unfinished and unpolished it was.
The game still sold a ton of copies despite the negative reception by most fans.

I think that should tell you all you need to know.

Sonic Boom was released on a dead console and a majority of Big Red Button's developers left the company before release. You're giving Sonic fans too much credit, that game was dead on arrival.

The 3DS games, which were on far more successful platforms, didn't do much better either, financially or critically. I highly doubt that Rise of Lyric would've sold well even if the Wii U was a successful console or if it were released the way it was on more successful systems.
