Why Sega didn't try making a Sonic game inspired by Kirby and the Forgotten Land?
Literally the first true 3D Kirby game and it was a successful transition to 3D.

To better illustrate what I meant here's an old Robo Blast 2 mod: https://youtu.be/k4E77qUXZAE

Because Sonic had a successful transition to 3D with Sonic Adventure, simple.

I probably should've seen that one coming.

Because they didn't need to, plain and simple.
I don't want Sonic to be a Kirby clone just like how I don't want Sonic to be a Mario clone.
I just want Sonic to be Sonic.

Also, as mentioned above, we already had a successful 3D formula for Sonic, it's called Sonic Adventure. Yet Sonic Team for some reason refuses to go back to this winning formula that so many people adored back in 1998 and still do to this day.

I think the more important detail to mention here is that Kirby and the Forgotten Land literally came out this year. Even if SEGA / Sonic Team were going to make a game inspired by it, it'd need more development time than 8 months.

You mean, the only successful transition to 3D? Because the other tries, after the release of this game, were a failure.

Agreed. I haven't seen any personality or love given to Sonic games by it's developers. Sonic Team doesn't want to do Sonic Games anymore. They aren't good developers, but in the end, they just want to receive the money.

1: Kirby and the Forgotten Land released this year, games take a very long time to create, if SEGA were to make a Sonic game inspired by this Kirby game, it would have been in at least 2 or 3 years from now.
It's likely that Sonic Frontiers started development before this Kirby game even, how would they take inspiration from something that didn't exist yet?

2: SEGA trying to make a Sonic game inspired by another successful franchise (Mario) is how we got Sonic Lost World. I prefer for Sonic games to do their own thing.

Adventure 2, Heroes, Unleashed and racing spinoffs were all good.

It's like if I said Sonic 3 is the only good 2D game.

Strangely, Sonic Colors was made for Mario fans as well.

And what if the things that Sonic games are currently doing are bad? Just wondering.
The reason why they don't go back to the Adventure formula is because this knowledge is probably all gone now. It looks like ST has been desesperately clinging to the boost formula for years and it's probably because they have not enough ressources to do anything else. To go back to the Adventure structure that would require to be reverse ingeniered. If they really wanted to achieve that, they should probably call the dude from project 06 because he has rebuilt a difficult Adventure game with a lot of variety and he has been doing this for years.

But even if they stay with the current structure, I don't think it would be the worst offense personnally. What annoys me the most is they never tried much to expand it. it feels like a prison at some point; We are stuck with half of Sonic Unleashed rules forever! The reason I enjoyed the 2000s so much is essentially because the series wasn't bound to a dead code; it still felt alive and damn I miss that thirst for variety! I assume that you guys all saw the Frontiers Prologue with Knuckles; How many of you had the though ''that'd be so awesome to kick ass with Knuckles like that in-game''? and how many of you know it probably won't be the case because we are conditionned to know that the only possibility with this structure is doing Sonic stuff? Sonic has become way to rigid IMO but the most important issue was to fix the tone, since it was litterally demoralising the fans and hopefully it looks like they are on a healing path for that matter (hope i'm not being fooled). I'm willing to support an imperfect product that respects the Sonic principles rather than a Sonic-Colors-Mario-wannabe with cringe content.

for unleashed I'd disagree, the werehog was a big chore, for the rest though i agree, tho tbf Sonic R is one of the 3d racing spinoffs and it was kinda mediocre aside from the music

At least it was so short to the point where it doesn't overstay its welcome. Also helps that I experienced it inside a Collection otherwise I would've been pissed if I spent $60 for it, assuming that was its price.
