G.U.N, the Black Arms, Maria, TANGLE and a plethora of other things that seldom get mentioned in the franchise since the SA days.

I love that Flynn managed to work in so many references without them feeling too forced, it's also one of many reasons I love his run of the comics. If you like the plot of this game at all I'd seriously recommend checking out the IDW Sonic comics sometime. They're great!

Eggman also mentions GUN vehicles by name in one of his recorded diaries that you can buy from BIG and makes references to many other games like the Babylon Rogues, effectively meaning every game except Knuckles Chaotix (Forced retcon due to Chaotix having a new origin story) and Sonic the Fighters (8 emeralds and hints that Bean and Bark's backstory is changed, as in the original backstory, while Bean was always insane, Bark was actually a kind person who loved snowboarding. Not evil at all) is canon in some form or another, even the spin offs. Though I'm not sure about Sonic Shuffle but it hasn't been debunked in universe either. and given even Secret Rings was canon...I'm willing to say Shuffle probably was too.
