Can't Jump Anymore

I started playing the game last night, completed the tutorial, made a few jumps, upgraded my ship.

I tried playing again today and now when I try to jump, it just says "System Loading" and the background flashes white and pink.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like your program crashed. Better try again and load from the autosave.

Yes, closing and restarting the program is absolutely the first thing I tried because this is not my first video game.
Any real advice?

Okay, so when you reload the save file, it didn't help at all? Does this happen with ANY jump?

It was any jump, and also on any save.

Eventually I restarted my computer and everything has been working since. Are there any known conflicts that may have resulted from a background app?

Probably just a temporary glitch. This program is old, it's bound to be buggy.

Just finished it, and once you finish it's supposed to be sandbox mode where you can go anywhere buy anything. But right now, every station I go to want to kill me because my turrets are berzerk.

try validating files in steam the game,then properties, local files, validate. If fault found steam will auto fix.

There was a well documented bug where that system loading bug appeared. Some speculated that is was corruption in save files but no fix for it. Your lucky yours cleared up. I just finished the game without any problems
