Gabriel on violent

Has anybody beat him on Violent? I can get him to half health on the second form but he just throws a ton of unavoidable attacks at me

Plenty. He's tough, but he doesn't have a single unavoidable attack. If it feels like he does, you might be missing something.

Something that I had to learn to beat Gabe on violent was to not over dash. His patterns change in phase 2 and if you don't have enough dashes ready to go you may have to eat some attacks. I really learned to appreciate sliding instead of dashing, to avoid certain attacks like his projectiles. Also, try to come into phase 2 with full heatlh and make sure you take advantage of his phase change animation. It's hard to find chances to heal in phase 2, but after any of his sequences in phase 1, he'll chill for a moment and you can dash in with shotgun or nailgun and spam punches to get some blood back. Get a free railgun shot and maybe a charge pistol or whatever combo you like when he's changing phases.

What I learned when finally beating Gabriel is two things:

1) In phase 2, you gotta go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on him. Unleash everything you got.

2) Prepare a one liner ahead of time so when you finish him with a revolver to the head at 1 hp, you get some extra style points

Just parry his ranged attacks and you can get him really easily

Protip: when you break his first health bar you can juggle him with the alternate revolver and the railgun for about half the second bar

I could parry his explosive spear throw, but none of the other attacks.

Best tip i can give is to observe Gabriel's moveset first. And to whittle his health down with the revolver because it won't clutter the screen the same way every other gun will.

Edit: Nevermind. His other attacks can be parried, but they are much harder for me to parry.

That ring of swords attack he does in phase 2 certainly feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, until you learn to hug the arena border to make them disintegrate. I haven't managed to 0 hit him yet (on the Violent difficulty), but the least amount of hits i've taken to him is 1-3.

You can dash through the ring of swords attack with the right timing too, they stop spinning just before they close in on you and you can dash then.

I found that railgun, coin chain, charge revolver, and then minigun rotation works well for first phase, then juggling him can take out half of phase 2 without so much as a scratch on you. After that, wait to dash until the swords surround you, use the dash I-frames to dodge through those at the last second, and then take whatever few potshots you can at him. Coin is great since you'll be running most of phase 2, I managed to somehow butt-slam him to death by falling into the void off the side since it TPs you to the middle of the arena at low HP if you fall off.

The timing feels akward, and if i don't hug the arena borders i usually run out of dashes trying to dash through the swords along with his 20 other attacks coming at me... And later i get hit by an attack because i can't dash any more. It just makes the RNG more bearable and fight easier.
