Steamdeck is not playable at the moment

15 hours in with Steam Deck and it works.
Check your Proton Version and maybe Force the latest entry.

I gifted Chained Echoes to my bf so he could play it on his Steam Deck, however, when he enters combat, it is apparently extremely laggy, to the point where it's unplayable. Every time he chooses an action it freezes for about 10-20 seconds.
Was hoping to find some answers here, but so far just a few people have reported the same issue.

I've only played this on the Steam Deck so far, and have had zero problems.

Have to disagree. Steam Deck works great ... until an update straight up removed all of my saves. ~14 hours of progress lost.

I'm having the lag issue also. Massive lag on scene transitions or every time someone takes damage in battle.

And I don't mean stuttering. There's like thirty seconds to a minute of frozen screen on almost every scene transition, and battle looks fine until someone takes a hit, then...almost a minute of frozen screen...

I encountered the lag problem too. Worked normally until I entered combat, then it dropped to 0-1 fps for minutes at a time. I didn't change proton versions, it just happened out of the blue.

And then my saves were erased and the blank slate uploaded to steam cloud, wiping local saves, and I decided to avoid playing on the Deck.

The lag in battle or scene transition is hitting my Steam Deck as well.

So rebooting my steamdeck fixes the issue temporarily.

I had this issue and resolved it completely by running the game with Proton GE 7-41 and verifying integrity of game files in the local files Menu.
Don't know Which step fixed it :)

Maybe you can try to go into Borderless Fullscreen and back to Fullscreen.
Bafeore I did this the Game ran around 25 FPS and after it 40-50 FPS so I locked to 40 FPS.

I'm having this issue as well. Oddly enough, I found playing docked actually helped for a while and I would only get a .5 second freeze in the first battle of my play session. Unfortunately now, after ~20 hours, it freezes for several minutes whenever an action is done in a battle making it unplayable. I've tried the borderless/fullscreen switch, but that didn't help.
