and i was using 144hz, all settings maxed and VSYNC. It runs great 95 percent of the time, but sometimes it would freeze the game. i had to turn down the texture quality to medium.
unfortunately it seems 144hz leads to the infinite loading screen glitch (which i experienced multiple times on BOGT)
Keeping it set to 60HZ and medium textures (everything else is max) seems to work best. haven't had any issues since.
Its crazy that when this PC version launched, you needed a super computer to max it out. Now an average computer is more than enough, and it only gives you more problems.
Yep! I actually have had this game in my library since it came out in 2008 or whenever and it was such an awful port and so impossible to run well, before the era of Steam refunds, that I refused to purchase anything on here for several years out of anger. I'm only just now picking it back up to play.
I replayed the mission all over again and as soon as i get onto bike i pressed escape to get into menu, alt+tab to switch to desktop, launched msi afterburner, went into riva tuner and set framerate limit to 25. When i had that limit set i completed mission, at 25fps. Removed limit as soon as i get into damn helicopter.
Latest version GTA IV Complete on steam
And dont go too high on the FPS.
No more than 40-50 fps.
Higher than 60, for sure you will have bugs : the chopper mission, the cars circulation for example.
That game wasn't featured to work at high FPS.
The SIMPLE way around this only requires you to use both the keyboard and a game controller at the same time.
As the "climb" button can be either A on the game controller or SPACE on the keyboard, the game accepts both those inputs. Using both inputs at once sends enough "climb" presses to overcome the glitch without need for any of the other complicated framerate-limiting or core-affinity related fixes.
When the moment comes, hammer the heck out of both A on the controller and SPACE on the keyboard simultaneously. This will climb Niko into the helicopter, and the mission can continue.
It's worth noting that the higher your framerate, the more and more impossible this will become
This is the way RAGE still works whether you like it or not.
thanks
