GTA IV helicopter glitch still exists and makes the games final mission unbeatable
I've seen this reported as early as 2013 but the glitch is still present today and is getting worse as CPU speeds improve.

I have a 8700k and this makes the final mission unbeatable in the new complete edition rerelease.

When you jump from a dirtbike to the helicopter that Jacob and Roman and piloting you need to quickly tap space to pull yourself up or a if gamepad.
This is impossible everytime you hit a or space the screen glitches and Niko won't move regardless of how fast you tap.

The only workable solution is to pause the game before the jump open task manager and set CPU affinity to only use 1 CPU core for GTA.
This is not a good workaround for a rerelease that cares more about patching out content then fixing game breaking issues.

Music was removed from radio stations multiplayer was removed and this game breaking bug that means anyone with a CPU faster then most in 2009 which is everyone will be unable to progress past the final mission.

Ok, the core-limiting fix eventually worked for me, but I did have to try more than once. Not sure what went wrong the first time I tried it. Thankful at least some kind of fix admits, but damn - how shameful the developers continue to sell this product in its current state. I would imagine this would be subject to some kind of liability or claim under consumer protection laws of some countries.

strangely enough, i had it only happen on the second try, (failed the first time, beat it the third time)
and i was using 144hz, all settings maxed and VSYNC. It runs great 95 percent of the time, but sometimes it would freeze the game. i had to turn down the texture quality to medium.

unfortunately it seems 144hz leads to the infinite loading screen glitch (which i experienced multiple times on BOGT)

Keeping it set to 60HZ and medium textures (everything else is max) seems to work best. haven't had any issues since.

Its crazy that when this PC version launched, you needed a super computer to max it out. Now an average computer is more than enough, and it only gives you more problems.

Yep! I actually have had this game in my library since it came out in 2008 or whenever and it was such an awful port and so impossible to run well, before the era of Steam refunds, that I refused to purchase anything on here for several years out of anger. I'm only just now picking it back up to play.

You don't necesary need task manager.Limiting your fps to 30 via fraps works just as well.

Setting core affinity to 1 cpu fixed it for me, but it's ridiculous that this bug still exists :lunar2019madpig:

2 years ago was released a patch 1.0.8.0 which according to its changelog was supposed to fix that exact problem. Recently i installed and completed the game mainly because of that changelog. Imagine my disappointment when i faced this very bug again on latest version of the game which was supposed to be fixed.

I replayed the mission all over again and as soon as i get onto bike i pressed escape to get into menu, alt+tab to switch to desktop, launched msi afterburner, went into riva tuner and set framerate limit to 25. When i had that limit set i completed mission, at 25fps. Removed limit as soon as i get into damn helicopter.

Try 50hz.

And dont go too high on the FPS.
No more than 40-50 fps.

Higher than 60, for sure you will have bugs : the chopper mission, the cars circulation for example.
That game wasn't featured to work at high FPS.

Reposting this from another thread for the folks subscribed to this one:

The SIMPLE way around this only requires you to use both the keyboard and a game controller at the same time.

As the "climb" button can be either A on the game controller or SPACE on the keyboard, the game accepts both those inputs. Using both inputs at once sends enough "climb" presses to overcome the glitch without need for any of the other complicated framerate-limiting or core-affinity related fixes.

When the moment comes, hammer the heck out of both A on the controller and SPACE on the keyboard simultaneously. This will climb Niko into the helicopter, and the mission can continue.

It's worth noting that the higher your framerate, the more and more impossible this will become

Which is why, the actual simple way is to turn on Vsync and lock fps.

If you ever played San Andreas at 60+ frames and you'll know without Frame Limiter you can't even swim fast.
In GTAIV it's same problem, the only solution is turn on the VSync, the fps will lock at 60 frames and you can do anything without problems. Just try it bro.
I am not talking about San Andreas that game i have no experience with playing on PC and its very old and probly purely optimized for PC just like GTA IV is insanly poor optimized for PC.
I am talking about GTA V where i can set it to 144fps and like i said my game runs flawless so that this guy is saying
'Rockstar games are not designed to go above 30fps. GTA 5 starts to bug out, even RDR2 starts to bug out.'
so basicly this SirDuck is saying you cant play Rockstar games above 30 frames,
which is a lie
yes his patatoe PC might not be able to play above 30 fps?
but others will.
30 or 60 locked, no in-between.
This is the way RAGE still works whether you like it or not.

I was able to get aboard the helicopter by using the controller and the keyboard simultaneously.

You gotta turn Vysnc on and set your resolution refresh rate to the 60Hz option. Then it'll let you do it.

Rockstar games are not designed to go above 30fps. GTA 5 starts to bug out, even RDR2 starts to bug out.

I don't know why they keep tying stuff to the framerate, it's a bad practice especially for modern standards. Even for 2008 standards tbh

thanks

Just because the game has issues above 30 FPS it doesn't mean it was designed to run at that frame rate only, the issues could just be development oversights, the developers were obviously aware that most people would have 60 Hz screens on their PCs at the time and they added a V-Sync toggle to the game which would then cap the frame rate to 60 FPS, also meaning that optionally having no frame rate cap was intended - they would just cap the game to 30 FPS internally otherwise, like it was done to the PC version of Bully: Scholarship Edition. I finished the campaign at 60 FPS just fine, any issues at that frame rate are very minor or just unnoticeable. You can still press spacebar fast enough to climb on the helicopter in the final mission, you just need to do it faster.
