In terms of gameplay this is the closest thing we have to a spiritual succesor to BL2
Nona's playstyle is exactly what I wanted Gaige's Deathtrap mechanics to feel like.
The early weapons are roughly based on conventions popularized by Borderlands and Overwatch, but further in-development, they created weapons with interesting gimmicks making an identity for itself that's unique to Gunfire.
The roguelike aspects of it are insanely addicting as you said, and they are further increasing the roster of "boons" that synergizes with each other.
I can't call this game "soul less"
I know what soul less looks like and that's Borderlands 3
Gunfire is an indie title that needs some sort of hook to draw people in, it's a business after all. You come to this game expecting "Borderlands" because that's how it's marketed via word of mouth... but you stay realizing you're playing something new and you love it, and it's "Gunfire Reborn"
Gunfire Reborn is clearly it's own game but the devs definitely played a lot of Borderlands 2, drew inspiration from it, and translated that to the rogue FPS shooter very well. The art style is on the 'cutesy' end which isn't everyone's cup of tea but the gameplay is really well done. No matter how hectic a fight is, I feel in control and like I probably deserved every death minus the occasional, what one dev (of another game) called a "F' you room" where you walk in, and get cheaped almost instantly which happens on rare occasions.
BL1 = good loot, guns feel good, manufactures aren't restrictive, enemies drop what they are using, plot characters and dialogue/text are decent, fits wasteland theme, feels like an actual game, best UI (not cluttered), eridian guns, eridian enemies, weapon proffecincies, revolvers as a weapon type, and sns > bandit.
BL2 = good story and ok dialogue (it's cheesy when you come back after becoming an adult.), fun enemies and environments
TPS = atmospheric, good skill trees, decent story maybe (never finished), low grav is fun, said to have the best dlc, and cryo
BL3 = good gunplay but not quite as good as the first. (1st also has best gore if you are into that), most customizable Vault Hunters, mantaling, new tediore reloads, dahl isn't only recoil, alternate fire modes, and eridian enemies are back and better.
Wonderlands: spells are fun and you can merge skill trees
