Once you feel strong enough, stop doing vaults. Every vault you enter can add minutes to your run.
That too for my elite run I didn't do any vaults after the desert stages. All depends on how well you are doing but you can't cut corners until you know you got a good combo going that can clear the stages fast enough.
Also getting Cube in MP can be beneficial; let it explode and one of you sacrifices their self-revive to get everybody else back up and save a couple minutes instead of defending it.
It is such a dice roll that you hope to get stuff.
The stage layout, the vaults, mini-bosses and bosses, so much can go wrong...
I manage to get the demonlore combo early but ditched it halfway when I saw a porcupine with damage increase per elemental trigger with elemental spread. It helped me so much because I was so behind (Cleared desert under 22 mins).
Hydra being the final boss instead of boat is a real blessing.
I stop doing vaults half way the desert stage when I was running out of time.
The reason I failed a few of my runs is because I was too much in a hurry that mobs spawned on me, including suiciders.
Scrolls you want to prioritize are like any scroll that helps with mobility, damage (penetrating bullet saves so much time), helps with reloads (advance depot, flow, etc.) and some survivability. Grabbing a sword can help you move fast too.
Bird is the best character to get solo runs as his scaling and survivability aid you immensely; his abilities are strong early in the game (tombs) but become lackluster near the end. This is fine as you will want to have a broken build by that time anyway. Other characters struggle to get fast times especially in the tombs.
My strategy is to take all portals in the tombs, and none in any of the other biomes. If you get a "Defend the zeal" event you can just give up immediately as it'll hinder you to degrees you rarely get to make up for. Other terrible spawns include the large platform room. Because things scale pretty hard in Nightmare you will want to go with a meta build rather than trying to be quirky; go for Hail of Bullets with a Wild Hunt if possible, but make sure to stick to the good shotguns whatever happens. Don't pick terrible ascensions like additional ability damage. They can work, but require way more effort to enable than the more consistent ones. Generally speaking you also want one of the broken defensive scrolls like Spirit Feline or Lightless shield; both should trivialize taking damage if remotely careful.
This achievement does require you to high roll scrolls, but if you know what you're doing not nearly as much as you might believe.
