Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Steam version is a piece of sh*t, refuses to run on Windows 10 no matter what
Sorry for the obscene title, but it best sums up how I feel right now.

I've attempted to install Max Payne 2 on my Windows 10 platform, but as of right now very few of my attempts to run the game correctly have been successful. Every time I try to open the game up, be it Steam or the .exe file, I am greeted with this message.

"Max Payne 2 requires a DirectX 9.0 compatible display adapter. Please consule the troubleshooting readme in the installation folder."

So of course, I've tried everything. I've tried reinstalling it countless times, I've tried running it as Administrator mode, I've even tried installing the patch[community.pcgamingwiki.com] that supposedly fixes this. Alas, none of these methods have worked.

The only thing that seems to work is running it in compatability mode as Windows 98/ME, but then when I install the Widescreen patch, it reverts back to it's normal habits, probably something to do with the .dll file it comes with.

Anyone got any solutions? Any would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Nah, I've already tried that (I even mentioned it in my post). Still doesn't change a thing.

What you're queefing about are Windows botnet edition issues, not Steam or game issues.

Install modern 64bit Linux distro, Steam and enable Proton for all windows games from settings.
Enjoy the game.
