Max Payne 1 and 2 "RUNNING" but nothing happens

I can launch both games, no errors and steam says they are running and so does task manager, but no window, no nothing? Any ideas?

You probably need the 'max payne startup fix', it exists for both mp1 and mp2, but even with that some other issues will come up. For Max1 I compiled a complete fixpack that can be found in the guides section:

Thanks!! Works perfectly, a few issues with the FPS of Max Payne 2 but atleast it opens

If you've got a Linux machine handy, run it in Proton on that.

Seriously. Proton's compatibility is amazing. You might as well be running it on whatever turn-of-the-century machine it was designed for.

Hey I fixed your problem guys!
Works for both max payne 1 and 2.

Right click in your steam library, go to local files, browse.
Then ctrl+shift+right click the exe. Go to compatibilty and run in compatibility mode for windows 98/Me.

Should work with no issues, feel free to mention me and comment if you're having any further issues.

Doesn't work for most, theres a few fixes you can download, got 1080p 60fps on both now :)

It doesn't work for me at all. I downloaded the whole thing as instructed but the fixpack wouldn't start when i click on the game as it should have and instead just stays on the running screen with no changes

I'm not a huge fan of those kind of "do everything" fix packs and there's why. It sounds like whatever method you're using to deal with the startup hangs hasn't taken properly. Roll back whatever you used in that fix pack and try this instead: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/838-max-payne-series-startup-hang-patch/

that's exactly what's in the fixpack too.
sometimes the game is stuck in the background, you either have to end it from taskmanager or reboot before it will run again.
