Max Payne

Max Payne

Can this game work in 21:9 ultra widescreen resolution?
Already googled but found no information on this whatsoever.

One thing you can try to set it in the registry (regedit), it's located at
'Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Remedy Entertainment\Max Payne\Video Settings'
The values are 'Dipslay Height' and 'Display Width' make sure you select decimal when editing them and putting in 1080 and 2560.

Next you need to skip the startup dialog, by setting '-nodialog' in steams game launch options. edit: and launch it from steam of course

then it might/should work (fingers crossed)

No promisses, as the game was designed for 4:3 crt screens, but I think it can. If you install my 2020 patch (guides section) it comes with the widescreen fix. At default this is setup for 16:9 but when installed you will find an .ini file in [max payne game directory]\scrips and you can try and edit the FOV value there to get the proper scaling.

I already looked into that ini but it doesnt show any Resolution X and Y line or something like that.

where it says: "FOVFactor = 1.0" I guess you would have to set it a bit higher, like 1.3 for example.

But isnt FOV something completely different? That is field of view and doesnt control the rendering resolution. I would need 2560x1080.

it will do that res anyway i think, 2560x1440 shows up for me.

The resolution you named is 16:9. The game shows 4:3 and 16:9 resolutions to me in the launcher. But no 21:9 ultra widescreen ones.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

mr dj's repack works flawlessly 16.9 out of box I dont know which patch he uses. I played 1440p 165hz, no shutter or tearing (no fov option). find it yourself ask what patch he/she uses and say no to piracy

This topic is about 21:9, we know it works 16:9, but for topic starter his 21:9 res won't show up in the startup screen.

Big necro, but I used the WSGF patch on my 3840x1600 monitor, and now it works excellente.

https://www.wsgf.org/dr/max-payne
It takes you to this page:
https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#mp1
And it has both MP1 and 2 fixes.

Along with the sound patch (I used the Unofficial patch on win 10 today):
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Max_Payne#Missing_audio

And now the game works super good.
On my resolution though, I had to put the (game fix) fovfactor to 0.9, because the 1.0 was way too much, and everything was out of whack with lines being shown everywhere where the walls and doors and ceiling were showing through the cracks badly. It still happens at 0.9, but not nearly as bad as before changing it.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Max Payne\scripts\MaxPayne.WidescreenFix.ini is where to make changes.

With the announcement of the MP remake, I hope this helps people who are trying to play the game on win10 with super/ultra widescreens.
