When I first heard of that game, I was thrilled, naively assuming something along a Battlezone or Operation Flashpoint in the C&C universe (either would imo have made much more sense given the source material than what we ended up with).
You know, either base build and unit controll form a 1st person perspective or tactical battles where you are just one soldier among many, taking part in a battle that's so much bigger than you.
How naive young little me was...
When I did play it, I found it to be nothing more than a disapointing, generic shooter with an unlikable ♥♥♥♥ as a protagonist that had the C&C brand lazily stamped onto it.
Maybe the MP mode was fun, but I didn't care about that back then (and not much today either).
So, I state that I didn't like Renegade's gameplay and basic concept, and you recommend the fan-remake on the basis that it has good graphics?
We both obiously use english words, but other than that, we don't seem to speak the same language here..
There's also an attempt to make a spiritual succesor to Renegade by Petroglyph , called World Breaker i think but... it's not great, i and many others tried the beta for it when it was open and almost no one liked it, especially the cell shaded art style.

Looking forward C&C community will give more amazing work like this.
Both Renegade (multiplayer) and Renegade X are exactly what you wanted them to be when you were a kid. You just played the single player campaign that didn't do any of it lol. So yes go try Renegade X.
