Not even counting the fact you can't target units in the air in c&c1, the plane In fact it had a special logic making it 100% untargetable. I tested that by editing the game to make one land.
In the original game, if you had anti aircraft units on the path of the plane, you can damage it. But it takes a lot of hits to destroy it.
And yes in the original game you can't select flying air units when they are in air (for instance chinooks ; you have to wait that they land to order them again, while in this remaster you can select them when they are flying).
Maybe they should just make the thing invulnerable...
No, they would just fire at it while in range and if idle.
In this game ground units "automaticaly" attack air unit that are in range (apache, orcas, chinook, and antonov plane)
There were utilities back in ye day to make the transport plane targetable but you had to go in and actually alter the game...
If people are using that as proof that it was possible in the original game, they should go boot up a fresh install of the game and check again, lol.
Indeed. I've been playing a ton of the originals lately. Including console versions and I know you know. You made the 1.06 patch I play! XD Once I get one of my DOS computers actually working. I will have 6 versions of C&C TD to play and test for everyone.
In fact I specifically remember GDI Twist of Fate from Covert Operations trying to place Adv Guard Towers and MLRS and manual ctrl target the ground to take out the planes but could not kill them.

Good to see you here to answer these questions since you should have a better knowledge of what's possible. Mine is old, and thus, I might have been confused with other units behaviour.
Yet in the original game (dos cd-rom release unpatched in Europe), I have seen idle units attacking my antonov (the black areas were revealed when the plane was attacked by enemy units standing below the plane's path).
The plane was never destroyed (if possible at this time) because in solo missions there are never enough units on its path to destroy it. But I guess, if it has an health bar, it can be depleted on purpose in multiplayer missions.
If you have a clear vision of what was and what was not, maybe you should make a list of those differences and send your feedback to the devs so they can fix this remaster.
Yep remember shooting them down in the N64 version quite a lot. Just put rocket troops and rocket trucks in the way.
Sega Saturn version too. Definitely remember shooting them down.
The idea of Nod having to quick ship vehicles in to even the odds is a good one, but if Nod isn't on the Right Side of the map, it takes them way longer to deploy; gives away their position, and can be stopped from deploying vehicles.
GDI meanwhile can deploy effectively from any location.
The only upside Nod gets about this; is if you build more then one Airstrip, and spam out units; multiple planes can mass drop you units insanely quickly. Especially since Unit Construction is based on the number of facilities you have. 4 Airstrips can let Nod do some pretty insane ♥♥♥♥.
