Are enemies endless in this section?

In the section where you play as Chris, and you have to use the target locator to hit the megamycete, and there are waves of enemies spawning from the megamycete... are those enemies endless there? Seems like it. Once you kill off a full wave (of 8 or however many), more spawn in. Has anyone spent time here just trying to kill everything until stuff stops spawning? Do they stop spawning?

It is made up of three segments, and all three have a finite amount of enemies. However, the last segment has a lot, like six waves worth.
The only infinite spawn location in the game is at the start, the village gauntlet.

I don't think they're infinite but it does feel like it. I eventually dropped a flashbang and went up onto a roof with a ladder to use the target designator from there without being attacked.

That is a method, although people often fail to realise that the target locator only has to finish on the target. You can safely start charging it while running away from enemies.
