Just started and can't escape incinerator with squid outside :(
I am stuck in the incinerator building after incinerating the president - got caught by BTs, shook one off, but now there is a big squid monster patrolling outside and I can't get out, help!

Just run straight outside the tar ring(you can see it if you open the map) and don't stop moving, don't let it approach you while moving to avoid getting caught

You just have to escape the black goop. Its radius is limited. Try to climb objects to move faster. This is an important learning experience as you will have this more often.
Advanced trick if desperate: go outside and immediately do a 180° to climb the concrete building and go north.

Once you escape the black tar-like substance, the Catcher will disappear and the timefall will stop for a short time
Answers above. But I just had to add that I love that the contents of this post are things that could only all coexist in a Kojima game. "...incinerate the president." "... now there is a big squid monster patrolling outside." And that all the responses just casually accept them as normal parts of Death Stranding at this point because we're all inured to it lol.

Thank you so much all! I haven't gone back to try any of your suggestions yet, I retreated into familiar, lovely old Skyrim for a while where I feel so much safer! It's also so dark in the building that I can barely see anything and I find the scanner weird to use and not that helpful. Aikido you made me laugh and I agree, many people are now so accustomed to discussing outlandish and bizarre scenarios in games that it's very absurd and funny!

The scanner is only really useful for finding terrain hazards, lost cargo, tracking MULEs, and outlining BTs

It doesn't really explain it, but you can see nearby BTs if you stop moving. They only become invisible if you start moving, hold your breath, or are too far away. Makes it much easier o sneak by them when you don't have to rely entirely on your radar.
