...Cozy casual game for podcast listening?

Is this game enjoyable to play while listening to things in the background? I know this is a strange game but just trying to figure out if the gameplay loop is addicting enough for casual play while I listen to other things.

Yes and no. The basic actions for traversal do require some degree of constant attention. Unlike most games where you can feel your mind easily drifting when it's time to hold forward and run, you'll probably be actively engaged by just moving about.

That being said, I play like 90% of the game (building/maintaining roads, delivering regular orders, exploring and finding new routes, etc.) with a picture-in-picture video running at 480p in the upper right corner, and only ever remove it or stop it when doing story or watching unique cutscenes.

So, go right ahead. I'm certain a podcast is way less distracting than a video in the corner of the screen

Game's pretty plot dense early on, so you would probably want to pause the podcast for that. But once the game opens up, it's a pretty good candidate for that sort of thing. I spent a lot of time with twitch or netflix going while I was playing since the music in the game is rather sparse.
