Radeon RX 580 shows poor perfomance
Hi everyone.

My PC can't get over the range of 25-35 fps, on any kind of graphical settings, and also experiences drops from 40 to 15fps. Cutscenes flow on 30 fps.

720p and low settings gives me 25fps and 40 fps, 1080p low settings same, 1440p low settings the same. I've watched YouTube videos where other players with the same GPU are on stable 50 fps on 1440p high settings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuuxAQN1wG0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJNtBdpjifA

I've tried everything. My current PC specifications are:

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB
RAM: 16 GB

Game is version 1.0.1. I am not using a controller.

I tried:

  • Installed latest AMD drivers
  • Deleted last drivers and installed a more stable previous driver version.
  • Installed latest AMD drivers again
  • Lots of different AMD Adrenaline performance settings
Launching the game from Adrenaline sometimes crashes it on start.
  • Set Steam Input Per-Game in DEATH STRANDING's Properties tab to Off
  • Tested all game resolutions with low settings
  • Tested all game resolutions with medium settings (no FPS variation)
  • Tested all game resolutions with high settings (no FPS variation)

  • Setting anisotropic 16x and override DS settings from AMD Adrenaline
  • Setting on Windows 10 "Graphics Settings", ds.exe as High performance
  • Checked if my CPU and GPU bottleneck (100% GPU usage and 50%-60% CPU usage)
  • Disabled VSync on AMD Adrenaline and Death Stranding graphical settings
  • Sent a detailed report to AMD from their app.
  • Sent a detailed report to 505Games support. (Sent ticket on 23/07/2020)
  • Windows 10 Game Mode, Game Bar, recording, and all OS gaming settings disabled.

This is a fresh install of Windows 10, I installed it only for this game, so it has only Steam, Google Chrome, AMD Adrenaline and Death Stranding.

Other games on my W7 work flawlessly.

Edit: Hell, even the RX 570 and 560 get more FPS than my RX 580 do.

26/07/2020 - Edit2: No answers from a 505Games submitted ticket from 23th of july.

First benchmark
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/31063771
Second benchmark after enabling XML
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/31064315

Maybe my system is not ready to achieve 50 (not even 60) fps on low settings and 720p?
Thanks!

i have the same gpu, i'm getting fixed 60 frames (my display sits at 60htz), and during some cutscenes it drops to 40-50.
GPU - RX 580 8 GB
RAM - 12
CPU - AMD RYZEN 5 1600X
I hope you can fix your problem, but as far as i know, this gpu is having good performance with the game overall.

I have a RX580 too and I have a very good performance.
1440p with Fidelity CAS on, everything on max. It's 60 fps straight, sometimes down to 55 or so, but it's rare.

I too have the rx 580 and cutscenes drop for me as well. It hardly impacts the experience for me though and I finished the game yesterday, so I honestly can't complain

Thank you for your answers, calms me down after knowing that other people can run the game at 60 FPS. I also contacted 505 support, if I find an answer I'll post it here.

Do you have any kind of special GPU settings on Radeon Software/Adrenaline?

Thanks again! :steamhappy:

No special settings, just straight up using the pre-set for gaming.
Try seeing if the energy plan for your computer is set for power saving or balanced, other than that, I wouldn't know what it could be, maybe hardware, but I wouldn't be able to tell without taking a personal look.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. PC specs r5 2600 rx 580 8gb 16gb ram and i have 35-45 fps on 1080p. If I can solve the problem, I will definitely write it down. Good luck to us
Trip Jul 24, 2020 @ 9:26am
not sure what it is, game is running fine at 21:9 here. Either way, I might do some research to figure out what it is, but no promises. Good luck ya'll.
Gladiator Jul 24, 2020 @ 3:39pm
Same problem with rx 580 when i run this game first time its shows 50-60 fps on ultra settings. when i run it later it shows only 20-40 fps on ultra and low settings same
Xedo Jul 24, 2020 @ 6:01pm
My friend got the same problem, its the same CPU but its a GTX 1660 instead. Maybe something related to the CPU somehow? Or maybe its the game

If 505 support gives me a solution I'll quote you in this thread to let you know.

I thought something like that, but the minimum specs says that an Intel® Core i5-3470 would run fine. There must be something else, but I am not sure what it is. As I said above, I'll quote you if support team of 505 tells me something.

Thank you all.

This is either a blatant lie or you don't actually have RX580.

Here you go

Second test after enabling XML on BIOS:
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/31064315

Is everything alright? Seems that AMD RX 580 is 'performing' below potential. Do I have to overclock the GPU to get 60 fps on 720/low settings? What do you think?
