What a giant turd this game is. Everything about this game is crap. Let's start with the fighting- rockstar games have always had really, really crappy hand to hand fighting and this game is no different. The fighting is so lame that they should have removed it from the game before going to market.

The controls in this game are clunky and non-intuitive. if you want to heal during a fight you have to navigate through multiple menu's to find a potion.You find yourself holding 3-4 buttons down at the same time to try to navigate through menu's.When you are killed, time advances and you awaken in some totally different location, so you have no ability to retry whatever just killed you.

90% of this stupid game is riding a horse from place to place. The horses all suck, they're all slow and the little bit of time you have when you aren't riding a horse from nowhere to nowhere you're kissing the horses ass to increase your bond.

Rockstar went for an immersive experience and sacrificed everything for that one quality and the result is a really crappy game that isn't worth playing. I've just reached 10% completion and I have no desire to play anymore. screw this crap game.

another reason this game sucks. I was driving a stagecoach and stopped the horses in front of a building. Couldn't move the horses, couldn't get off the stagecoach, couldn't do anything. Then suddenly I did for no reason. Stuff like this happens all the time in this buggy piece of crap game.

Another reason to hate this game- if you get in a fight, get knocked down, killed, fall off a horse or whatever then you have to go pick your hat up and put it back on. The game is full of annoying and tedious actions that you have to engage in. It's like rockstar chose realism over enjoyability so you spend your time engaging it mundane housekeeping instead of playing a video game.

Another reason this game sucks- when you're riding your stupid horse around (which accounts for 90% of gameplay) you'll get ambushed by guys on horses and they always kill you. you can't pause and then dig through the multiple menu screens to find the healing potion, so you have to just resign yourself to dying. Then when you wake up, you're in a different location and hours have passed, so you never have the opportunity to go back and kill the people that killed you.

another reason this game sucks- just rode the stupid horse halfway across the map to meet javier escuela and once I get there, his name is greyed out and there's a picture of a lock on it. What does that mean? Who ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ knows? Just like all the menu's, a bunch of symbols whose meaning is unknown and the game provides no way to find out. So now, in addition to all the tedious busy work I have to do in game, I have to waste time googling trivial ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ since rockstar chose not to provide any indication of how their crap game works.

This game is an acquired taste.
- fighting: two buttons are enough to win any story mode fight. R for blocking, F for punching
- healing: press F4 and move mouse up
- horses: you don't need to do anything to increase the bond. If you ride it long enough it will bond anyway.
- stagecoach stopping: yeah it has glitches here and there but nothing game breaking
- hat: it is always on your horse and you don't need to search for it
- ambushes: use dead eye + F4&some tonic and/or run for cover
-mission locked: it means the location is available only during daytime or you have pending bounties that should be paid off.
In conclusion if you don't want to spend your time getting acquainted with game's mechanics just move the f*ck on to greener pastures.

can you recommend a game with riding horses and six shooter gun play ? , a compelling story of a man that realizes his life and choices where a horrible mistake and how he comes to terms with it , how he changes , realizes he cant undo the past , but he can help others have a better future ?
and with an online component where i can immerse myself in a world thats alive and interesting and if i choose to be good or bad i can , an online world where if i choose i can simply ride around and take in the sites ? a world where i can hunt down outlaws or bootleg booze, where i can be a vegetarian, and never harm an animal ,
please recommend a game to me with this much freedom
