Mauser Pistol... Hm! It borders on anachronism...
Hi,

Am I the only one who has a lot of difficulty to see this Mauser pistol in this Western game?

This pistol has been invented in 1896 in Germany! This is a fact. It was common in Europe.

RDR2 game setup is in 1899. Ok, so far. But, I doubt that it was already in America only three years after it has been created. International market wasn't like today at all back in those years.
I found no trace of it historically in 1800s for USA.

It's a tiny detail but for me it brakes the immersion in the game and the magic of our classic western movies a bit. :(

I'm just curious to know if some among you have the same feeling. ;)

Thanks,

It was added because it existed in the original RDR.

Collector + cash + boat = get what they want but I doubt they would have been common or over the counter in a nation obsessed with its own products "buy american" etc

R* would have been better off with colt 48' dragoon or in online the colt 1903 for example if wanted an auto.

How about the fact the adding rifling to a shotgun makes the buckshot more accurate? It does the opposite IRL. Also you have to add rifling to..... rifles... It's not a rifle if it's not rifled, now is it?

Well calibers are also reduced to "pistol" "revolver" & "rifle" etc.
Is just ya typical dumbing down for sake of simplicity, is not uncommon in games.
I'm just thankful they can all drop an enemy in a single head shot none of them are useless and targets don't have 1001 hit points to whittle down and lvl up as you do making a perfectly good weapon useless 5 levels on.

Cough, cough.... Ubi, Cough.

I mean. . . People were constantly traveling to and from the Americas/Europe all through the period. It's very possible someone got robbed and/or shot and lost their cool-ass brand new German gun.

I think Wayz covered what I mean.

yeah imagine how attractive the US market must have been to European gun makers. but the means of distribution wouldn't have been in place, so it wouldn't have been available to order from a catalog. but surely a few shipments made their way stateside.

I won't pick up a pistol even for free, because, like you it buggers up the whole old time duster thing for me.

Wait... That's a fib. Took whatshisnames pistol when I killed him on a certain train.
Wished I hadn't, but I did...

Yes, I do exactly what you are doing. I avoid all weapons or equipment that brakes immersion for me. :)

I can't imagine Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Lee Van Cleef, Kirk Douglas, and so on... with a Mauser pistol lolll

My fun is playing the game like my old child time cow boy movies... ;)

Just store weapons that You don't want to use. I ended up doing this to all but 2 sidearms + sawnoff as a quick swap on horse, 2 repeaters, 1 rifle and a shotgun. just so they were fast to get to and didn't get lost in the weapon menu. Wish my chosen knife would stay as I selected too and could store all the axes away in locker also but....

I no longer need the bow and .22 so I stored them but you can just swap loadout when you want a change.

I believe there was a Mauser pistol in one of the John Wayne movies set @1900. Maybe Big Jake--I will have to check IMFDB. They usually comment if there is an anacronism in the firearms. I carry one when have switched over to my "modern" kit. Bolt action rifle, semi auto shotgun.

Not a Mauser a Bergmann 1911. I am not familiar with this one.

What do you find pathetic? Maybe with more details we will understand. You have right to disagree but at least gives some words to explain please.

My intention with this thread was just to chat about this and hear what people think. Nothing to harm anyone.

You could have come up with a better example in terms of your issue with immersion breaking?? Considering all those fossils you named played fictional characters from movies.
