Is it worth going online?
Ok, bare with me here..

I just picked up RDR2 during the winter sale. I wanted to play it when it came out, but that was right after my accident and I was still convinced at that time that I'll never be able to play games again. It was a little over dramatic in hind sight, I still had half of my arms..

I almost cried when I came across Mickey in Valentine. I'm missing my left arm too buddy, and my dog was hit by a car when I was in the hospital... The emotional connection to this game is ... indescribable.

Anyway, I can manage navigating alright, and I can kindof hold my own up against AI, but I can't react fast enough to compete against able-bodied humans. Tends to make my online experience in pretty much every game very un-enjoyable. Combine that with how caring and compassionate people on the internet can be, and playing online makes me wish I stayed dead on the side of the road.

So honest opinion please, should I even bother?

If you're on PC, NO! Some may suggest a mod for private lobbies. So there is that. But for my money, NO!

I mean, because the online mode comes free with the full game, there’s no harm in giving it a try.

However, can I honestly recommend it? No.

The online mode suffers from an awful cheating problem on PC. These cheaters can instantly kill you, spawn hostile mobs around you, trap you in a cage, teleport you around the map, crash your game client, etc. it’s incredibly frustrating.

Officially, the game only supports public sessions, and if you join a public game you pretty much guaranteed to be playing with cheaters (they’re tragically common to see).

Like Onanonehand8 said, the only way to play the game without cheaters is to create a private session, but to do this you need you use a 3rd-party “trick.” A video in this thread shows you how (second reply):

If you own a newer console (PS/Xbox), Red Dead Online is a MUCH better experience on it; cheating isn’t a problem on that platform. However, I’m not sure how well you can use a controller with your injury. :(

I hope this info helps.

you really cant enjoy yourself online without playing in a private session.

After my buddy and i did that we have played a happy 40 hours uninterrupted with no crashes and no cheaters.

I just made a post about playing online today - just don't XD Unless you enjoy being pranked by hakers. One of those fellas put a barrel on my character just moments before he kicked me out of the server. And even if you manage to play and not stumble upon bullies, there's virtually almost nothing to do. There is a short storyline to follow, but it ends abruptly. There are some activities you can partake in, if you have enough gold to buy yourself access to them and thats it. Those activities are not too thrilling either. You can basically do things you do in singleplayer - you can hunt, either to kill and get pelts or to tranquilize and get absolutely nothing, you can own your own moonshine distillery to ride around, do simple quests and sell your product from town to town or you can track down outlaws to get astonishing amount of about 1$ per one (and thats the most interesting thing to do tbh). Once You play for some time, you get enough money to buy most of the things, and thats it- you're done. There won't be any new content, sadly.

Or maybe you should try some private sessions, as ppl mentioned - I didn't try them but I've heard that it can be fun.

I played online for years, over 1600 hours. It's pretty great, but on PC it has deteriorated significantly the last year, and meteorically the last couple months. Right now it's impossible to play online, and I *mean* impossible. You have 5 minutes tops in any session before crashing.
