Windows 10 x64
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7Ghz (not overclocked)
32 GM RAM
RTX 2080
It was a reasonably high end machine when I built it in 2021, and this game was released 3 years before that. It shouldn't be a factor of an outdated machine, or otherwise failing to meet min specs.
- I read a suggestion to switch from Vulkan to Direct X 12
- Set Launch Options -ignorepipelinecache
- Check NVIDIA drivers and uninstall then install driver from date 5/24/23 (532.03)
- Run a clean startup
- Disable Overclocking
Good Luck I have tried all and no luck.
fixed
-sgadriver=d3d12 -ignorepipelinecache -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -high
Although we took other steps, I don't feel they had any impact on the ultimate outcome. If you guys are still experiencing issues, hopefully this may help you.,
You do realize we here in these very forums have been suggesting that for over 2 years now.
All you are doing really is forcing game to load up in DX12 which you can do without those launch options.
You don't need ignorepipelinecache because you won't have such a cache for your game since you've switched it over to DX12
The cpu cores and high priority line doesn't even do anything

Note: Try playing the game after each step, if everything works as it should then do not proceed with the consecutive steps.
Q: Game does not launch, shows up in Task Manager and then disappears.
-> Disable iGPU/Integrated Graphics from Device Manager.
-> End EasyAntiCheat from TaskManager.
-> Try the command line argument: -sgadriver=dx12 or -safemode.
Q: Crashing randomly and stuttering.
-> Unlink Documents from OneDrive & stop syncing files inside Documents\Rockstar Games. Consider uninstalling this app.
-> Delete all files named with the prefix sga_ located inside Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings.
-> Clear the Temp folder (%temp%).
-> Delete DirectX Shader Cache via Disk Cleanup.
-> Delete Shader Cache stored by Steam inside steamapps\shadercache\1174180 or 1404210.
-> Switch to Vulkan.
-> Clean re-install GPU drivers (use DDU if possible) or Roll-back to a previous version of the driver.
-> Vulkan & Steam users: Enable Shader Pre-Caching under (general) Steam Settings.
Q: ERR_GFX_STATE.
-> Try the above steps. ^
-> Revert any overclocking done to hardware, disable XMP.
-> Switch the API under Advanced Graphics settings.
Q: ERR_GFX_INIT.
-> Re-install GPU drivers (Use DDU).
Q: ERR_GFX_D3D_SWAPCHAIN_ALLOC_2.
-> Update Windows 10/11 to the latest build.
Q: ERR_GFX_D3D_DEFERRED_MEM.
-> Lower some of the graphics settings; even if it's under suggested limits.
Q: ERR_MEM_VIRTUAL_OUT_OF_MEMORY.
-> Clear space in your C drive and the drive where your game is installed.
-> Let Windows manage paging for your drives.
Q: Discord overlay is not working.
-> Switch to DX12 from Vulkan under Advanced Graphics settings.
-> Set Discord and the game launcher clients (RGL/Steam/Epic) to be run as admin.
Q: FFFFFF error.
-> Modder induced CTD: Nothing can be done about this, wait for the modder to get bored. Alternatively, try playing in a solo session (Google on how to get into a solo session).
-> Corrupted cache || Explosions/Particle effects: Try the steps from Crashing randomly and stuttering.
-> Every 5-10 mins: It's likely a network issue due to how P2P servers work now. Try a different internet connection and make sure there are no packets lost. No other definite fix for this yet. This happens when launching a mission which has a chance to change sessions and trigger the crash. Seems to be resolved.
-> Dead-Eye Cards || Wilderness Camp: Use the mainstream PIB card to not crash while using the ability; do not use the wilderness camp. Seems to be resolved.
Q: Getting disconnects/Unable to connect/Rockstar services are unavailable/Not able to login to Social Club/Error Code: 0x<RandomNumber>.
-> Try a VPN first (Windscribe is free).
-> Use Google DNS/Cloudflare DNS/NextDNS.
-> Command prompt: ipconfig/flushdns.
-> Enable UPnP in router settings.
Q: Signing-in difficulties for Rockstar Games Launcher.
-> Delete Local Profile Cache via Settings -> Account Information in Rockstar Games Launcher (RGL).
Q: In game store is not working.
-> Use the store in the Rockstar Games Launcher client.
Q: Red Dead Online standalone from Steam isn't running.
-> Verify game files after finishing download, Steam might download additional files after verification.
Q: Flashing white box.
-> Disable Nvidia's Reflex in the game settings or the reflex indicator in Performance Monitoring (GeForce overlay).
hope this helps
2) Delete all "sga" files.
-> Re-install GPU drivers (Use DDU).
That is wrong buddy.
It is not wrong. However many do not know how to properly use DDU.
You launch it, change the settings to allow Safe Mode, then exit the option and ddu app and relaunch it. Then select Safe Mode + Restart. THEN do the GPU Driver Cleaning.
DO NOT do it in Normal Mode.
It shouldn't matter what you set the Graphics Settings to as long as you don't exceed the VRAM.
Usually it is best to set the Preset to Balanced, then go and tweak everything else yourself. Such as Textures = Ultra which is a must.
If it has crashing issues its often due to using Vulkan API since the game uses an old one and you can't change that. This is why many suggest switching the API setting to DX12, as it's much more stable for most systems.
But i couldn't stand it. I wanted to play and i am sure it was a grafix issue. I decided tot slide my setting in-game one step back to performance. Since then i have been able to play for hours without a single crash where it normally would crash after a couple of minutes. Just with one single change. The problem was fixed for me. I hope it will help others.
Important! Dont use Nvidia Experience to configure your settings!
My config is:
Intel Core i7 8700K Coffee Lake 6-Core (12 threads) 3.7Ghz (turbo: 4.7Ghz)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti with 11GB GDDR5X
1TB SSD
16GB DDR4
So long story short. No rolling back drivers, no deleting or editing files. No DX12. Just one simple change in the grafix setting fixed the issue for me and i have been able to play the game for hours on straight. Please let us know if it worked for some of you.
