You can explore way, way before that. It's enough to just get to chapter two. I had many of my challenges complete, legends of the east satchel, and most of the trapper stuff crafted long before I rescued Micah.
The prologue is about 2 hours in length, presented as a mostly linear interactive movie.
After that you enter Chapter 2 and are let loose, so to speak.
Where the Open World is there for you to engage with.

i don't want to tell you how similar this game is to RDR, and how many assets / buildings and layouts were copy pasted from the old game, if that's the case.

Dragon Quests/Warrior Intro time without fighting and only talking (PS1 Original Version): 4 Hours total. Beat that.
