Story Mode: When do you get a Light?

Early in Chapter 2, I've found the Poison treasure map and I've found the cave the treasure is in. It is pitch black. I don't have a lantern or any other source of light. As far as I can tell, you can't buy or craft a light source. So...how far into the game do you have to progress for the missions to give you a light? Or is there some strange and wonderful way for me to get a lantern now?

It should be on the horse where the knife is

You have it on you, look for a knife and press E or R in the item wheel

Lanterns are in the melee tab for weapons.

You already have one from the begining.

...strange design choice. I'd expect it to be in the kit slot with the camera and binoculars. Instead it is in the melee weapon slot. Just weird design decision.

Probably because you can dual wield the lantern in one hand, and a weapon in the other.
