It's a defensive legend that revolves around indoor and " doors ". It can definitely buy you time / bar off enemies and gain advantage over them but that said, you can't secure more than 2 doors at any given time so it does require a good grasp of the game mechanics and player behaviour for it to be any good.

For example. If you're only pursued by 1 enemy and you've reinforced a door, there is enough time for you to (1) Revive 1 of your teammate (2) Heal and reset as it takes 4 kicks to get it broken.

[TACTICAL AND PASSIVE]

Catalyst's tactical also extends slightly beyond any door you throw it at so enemy ultilising doors to hold you off and heal will likely be punished. Catalyst tactical is also a good indicator of enemy. If you throw it behind something and it spikes up, there's enemy near it.

Much like Caustic's trap, Catalyst's spike can slightly deter/ annoy enemies ever so slightly and can be used as a short damage sponge during emergencies.

[ULTIMATE]

Catalyst's Ult is not as great as most other legends as it requires a lot of map and rotational knowledge. It creates a opaque wall and render any scan legend useless so long as you're on the other side of it. As well as blinding and limiting vision of any enemy that passes through the wall down to 20%~ ish of their original view.

However it does not prevent ultimate like Seer's. Which again, requires you to understand and know who exactly you're fighting against or it'll be rendered useless.

Otherwise, it can be really great when you know enemy has overextended and you throw in a wall to separate enemy from their teammates so you and your team could punish over-extenders.

[PERSONAL OPINION]

Personally I like it a lot. I for one do not really care about what the legend is signalling about or whatever other people dislike about Catalyst outside of game-play purposes.
It's fun, does the job when needed. I absolutely love using Catalyst especially when playing with friends. If you love playing around doors, Catalyst is a must-try. Else, it can't provide you much.

Honestly, her kit sucks, and doesn't fit Apex at all. It fits Valorant. Her ult, for instance, would be incredibly powerful in valorant because you can effectively lock down an entire portion of the map, literal map control. In Apex, you can fly over it, go around it, etc, so it really doesn't do a whole lot.

To be honest, it seems the devs have ran out of ideas. Newcastle is another legend who basically has lifeline's old kit with the rez shield. Vantage also doesn't fit the game in my opinion.

she occupies the same position as wattson. door goo & spike strips are arguably better than fences, but watson's ult is way better. she's good but not meta

Honestly I can't find a single legend in the game worse than her. Her passive is trash, active is just fire grenade with ridiculously low damage and ult is the only not bad thing about her.
