Another Apex related issue: one CPU core at 100%
I don't know how to reproduce it yet and I'm not completely sure that it is really related to apex legends but it seems to be so.

Using Windows 10 I noticed since yesterday that one virtual core (for some reason its always core2) out of 16 (8 real cores, Ryzen 5800X) is running at full clock and full usage all the time. It doesn't start when I start the game but starts kind of randomly when I'm in the middle of the game and doesn't stop after I close the game. It can stop when I wait for a long time but I usually just restart the PC. It may have nothing to do with apex but since I only use Windows for gaming it's hard to tell. I spent some hours today just surfing the web with Windows 10 and the problem didn't occur, only after I started the game.

The process at fault is the kernel of the system itself (ntoskrnl.exe). Using Process explorer I noticed that each time it's a different thread whithin the process.

The problem occurs almost every time I play apex, I have a feeling that it MIGHT have something to do with alt-tabbing but as I said, I'm not sure how to reproduce it.

I don't expect to find a solution in this forum but maybe someone can tell if they also have a similar problem. Then I'd at least be sure that it is an apex issue and not some kind of malware or windows bug that'd force me to reinstall the whole OS.

Did you check Task Manager to figure out which process (and its PID) is consuming that amount of cpu time?

I usually recommend Mark Russinovich's Sysinternals (he is the current CTO of MS Azure). You can find process monitoring tools that can help a lot figuring out at least what is not happening.

https://sysinternais.com/

EDIT:

you did check which process is at the forefront of this cpu time spike. It is not related to alt-tabbing; we have already checked that 15-20 minutes in while playing AL this process begins spiking (though only to 20% max) and no alt-tabbing is happening.

BTW, lots of people are experiencing this issue. Several threads here and elsewhere report this.

ok, thanks for the clarification.
I wasn't aware that my problem is related to the apex not closing issue. In fact I had experienced this issue too but only once, when I alt-F4'd the game to reconnect to a laggy server and it didn't close. Other than that I didn't really have the issue with the game not closing or I didn't notice it not being closed.

Anyway, I guess we have to wait for a patch now

No problem, glad to help.

Yeah, Respawn's netcode is a bit problematic. They did implement important changes to it for Apex Legends (a lot is indeed new, as far as I know) but the fact remains that server issues too often result in hung processes - if you check thread handles you'll see one or more are waiting for a response from the server.

exactly same problem with me , core2 at 100% in random moment . but after like 10-20 minutes , it will normal again .
my cpu temprature increasing before 50c > 60c.

900 hours playing apex , but just now exprience this issue.
apex is so annoying.
how can fix this ?

this is an EAC issue, same thing happens with Lost ark.
System process high cpu usage and one thread Maxed.
Ridiculous and should be fixed asap.
