Nope.
It's not random.
You can see it if 1/3 of the Lobby jumps of with any trails which only got collected by 3% of the Playerbase.
Apex uses the most rigged EOMM-Algorythm ever created.
Bad Players will never care caused they don't get screwed every Game.. But trust me. For the Top 10% this Game is hell. It's mentally draining and surely led to many uninstalls in the upper Elo's.
If MM would be Random you would see a Trail (Diamond+) every 2-3 Games in your Matches. Statistically.
But if you play on a high rating at least 1/3 of your enemies will have Trails.
You can see the the ranked distribution at the end of every Season.
So you are able to see that 3.9% of the Playerbase was able to reach Diamond or higher.
With a Random MM it would be close to impossible to have 20 Trails in a Lobby.
Got it?
For one your 3.9% statistic is incorrect. From multiple sources it states 5.90% for diamond +
Two, you don't specify which mode you're talking about. To me it sounds like you're speaking of RANKED mode, which if you play at Diamond + rank, those players have likely reached Diamond+ last season.. So yes you will see trails. Which is common sense.
This line makes almost no sense at all. "If MM would be Random you would see a Trail (Diamond+) every 2-3 Games in your Matches. Statistically."
I literally have no idea where you came up with 2-3 games. Seems to be made up. For one, you don't know how many players reached diamond rank. Respawn just states the percentages that reached a rank, not the exact amount of players.
Unranked mode is random... which you can see by just playing the game.... Ranked mode is ranked based which is common sense.. and matches you up with common ranks hence the hypothetical 20 trails you supposedly sat there and counted in your hypothetical match (which is unlikely, but ok).
No one talks about Ranked Mode if someone complains about SBMM. Should be common sense, nah?
And It's not Random.
You have to be a Clown or really trash or both if you actually believe that Apex is using a random MM.
They actually admit it that there is SBMM so many time or in many tweets.

Just some examples.
The only thing they deny to admit is that they use EOMM.
But everyone which red the EA Study about EOMM knows that they use it in Apex.
None of these articles really matter, when the company themselves say they've turned it off on specified data centers at times. If not even that, just because SBMM exists in a game doesn't mean it works exactly the same as every other game. You don't know the inner-workings of how it is designed. It could look at something as trivial as survival time (which a player can be trash and still survive).
At the end of the day, none of this ♥♥♥♥ matters when I've played this game for 2 years, since release. And the matchmaking is random, and inconsistent to this day. I can be matched up with brand-new players, and very under-skilled players. Or the best players in the game.. Yet you say it isn't random. Ok. Whatever you say.
Ask yourself a very simple question if you really believe SBMM is working as designed. If it can't find players of similar skill currently on at any given time, who will it match you with?
Tldr: Unranked=No Skill Based Match Making Ranked=Skill Based Match Making (which. Yeah it's ranked. There should be heavy MMR influence in a more competitive mode)
