This game supports Dualshock icons. I use one, and it shows PS4 prompts.
Maybe you have the steam controller support enabled for this game, otherwise I don't know.
All I can tell is that my game shows PS4 prompts and even in the settings where you can see the controls, it shows a Dualshock 4.
I have the game on origin, so obviously steam controller support isn't at work for me, that's my best guess for your issue (as long as you don't use any third-party controller emulator).
As I first said then, which I thought was right, the game doesn't need any setup, it should register a Dualshock straight away, mine has every time.
Whether the game supports the V1 revision of the DualShock 4 controller remain to be seen. I don't own one of those so I can't confirm its support, but its often that modern games do not support that revision.
To identify whether you have a V1 or a V2 revision of the DualShock 4, simply check and see whether the controller have a light bar facing upwards on top of the touch pad or not: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/_B5ikIwr-eI/maxresdefault.jpg
If you do not see DualShock 4 button prompts in-game[www.pcgamingwiki.com] then there's probably some third-party XInput wrapper enabled (Steam's Controller Support, DS4Windows, x360ce, etc) that's emulating an Xbox 360 controller instead. Disabling that application (or the Playstation 4 Controller Support in Steam) should fix the issue and allow the game to natively connect and make use of the DualShock 4 controller.
The only way it works for me is by connecting the DS4 controller via USB cable - that way the controller works in the game and Playstation button prompts are shown.
It's not ideal, but it works!
