The game refuses to install
When I try to install Fallen Order, it says "restart steam and install latest update. You won't be able to continue using Steam until you have restarted." When I restart Steam, nothing changes and it demands I restart the application again instead of installing. Thing is, there is no latest update for Steam to install: I checked and it says my client software is up to date.

Rebooting the whole PC did nothing to solve it either. What the f.uck is going on? I just want to play the game!

You have to have origin to run this game. It should prompt you to install it and sign in or create an account. Is that maybe what's holding back the install?

I thought about that too, but It was also doing this even when I opened and updated Origin. It's weird, as other games install fine, but only Fallen Order has this bug. I know because I initially tried to install Rise of the Tomb Raider again as well, intending to put this one in my queue for when Rise finished. Cancelling the TR install didn't work either.

Have you tried to get in touch with steam support? Or maybe EA? Or maybe try to install from origin if it shows up in your library.

I can't install it in Origin without buying it a second time it looks like, but I did send a support ticket to Valve to see if they could fix it or provide a better solution for me to follow. Just waiting on a reply.

Cool. Good luck.

Found out what was causing the issue: there was an update after all, but I use the old Steam library GUI via a very helpful hack (because the new GUI sucks balls) and the config file was preventing the update from being detected. All I need to do is switch to the new UI, install the game then switch back.
