The game rules presets in Crusader Kings 3 are not being saved.
Hello, I have a problem: I'm trying to save a preset, but it doesn't save. I click the save button and see it in the list of presets, but after restarting the game, the list of presets is empty.

I did not touch the game folders, I even completely deleted the game and the folder in Documents
Maybe some past mod mucked up your preset file by adding options to it no longer available in your game now, making it to error when attempting to read now.

Find this file and delete it : filter_presets.txt

I'm not sure, I read on one forum that there may be an error with OneDirve, but I never found an answer there.
Same for me.

This problem seems to be unsolvable in general.
That's what I found - game rules are being saved in temporal file presets.txt_temp but not carried to the txt file. What's worse is that the same file get cleared after you start a game(but if you manually move your preset every time... it will work). So as a solution you can rename a file and apply rules before new game manually)/

Thanks, this is at least some kind of workaround. It’s strange that the game is almost 6 years old and they still haven’t fixed this bug.
Also, thanks Elon for everything you do and for your contribution to global innovation, especially fixing Paradox bugs 😄
Any of you have/had onedrive?

Completely disable and remove it. Make sure to fully deactivate onedrive and get everything back in proper local folders too before uninstalling it.

That was the cause of the issue for me. Even after uninstalling onedrive, documents defaulted to a filepath with onedrive included. So it was always saving/loading game rules from the wrong place and therefore couldn't find them.

Reinstalled onedrive, properly disabled it to fully remove onedrive from the file path, then uninstalled again and now it works.

♥♥♥♥ onedrive!

I've been unable to replicate this on my side; if the game is failing to properly save settings and rulesets, then you're possibly running into a permissions issue. As others have stated, double check OneDrive settings as that tends to be the source of this particular woe.

Yes, it does seem to be a OneDrive issue, most likely related to synchronization. What confuses me though is why it only affects presets.
Save games and other files update and sync normally, but this specific text file cannot be modified any changes made to it get reverted back to the original state.

The problem is that I don’t really know what to do in this situation: I need OneDrive, and it’s not possible to exclude just the Paradox folder from Documents or disable synchronization for only a single subfolder.

I’ve already contacted support about this issue multiple times, but so far without a real solution. I’m hoping you might be able to help or clarify this, because the current workaround manually moving the file every time is really not a great solution.

Whether you like OneDrive or not, the problem only seems to occur with this file from CK3. I use OneDrive myself, and I'm certainly not going to uninstall it because of a file from a single game. So what exactly is the solution, and what should you “double-check”?
